Description
Snatched up another note in a bottle out of the Great Atlantic. Dick Langford and Richard Marris let me sing one of their songs again. This one was written by Richard and was inspired back in 2012 by a trip he and his family took along the east coast of America. Killing time in a motel laundry room, he listened to this guy’s story, and here you have it. Slab City does exist. It’s an abandoned WWII Marine training facility. They moved all the buildings and sold them. Now there are only “slabs” there. It’s been popular with the RV campers.
Dick and Richard provided all the music on this. They both played guitar. Richard played the bass. Dick also provided the beat. It’s always an honor to sing for these guys. They write some great songs. We hope you enjoy it. Peace. Terry

Lyrics
Slab City

The ink on his arm says there’s a story to tell
While I’m waiting for his laundry, he might as well
Tell me where he’s going and where he’ been
Tell me why he’s running and what he’s seen

His girlfriend was a model, but she left him alone
Tried to show me a picture, but she’s gone from his phone
Had to quit his job cause it was bad for his health
Bought himself an RV with the last of his wealth

And I think of you upstairs in our motel room
Waiting for me in the dirty light bulb gloom
Whatever we differ, whatever you do
The only thing between him and me is you

He’s going west to Slab City when the summer heat cools
Off the grid in the desert where there are no rules
Brass bullets by the bucket from the rifle range
Sell them for a hundred-fifty dollars and change

And here we are on this greasy edge of town
Look up, my angel, don’t get down
Hold on tight together, forever true
The only thing between me and Slab City is you

Thanks for the listen, Andrew.
This was a solid, driving beat, as Dick and Richard seem to produce without effort. It inspires me to work on some of my own tunes and try for that same energy. It's always a blast to sing their songs. I hope I can always do them justice.

Thanks, Vic
It's always a pleasure working with Dick and Richard. I love all their songs, and have worked up a solo version of them for local performances. I always get a good response, but never fail to give them credit, (but I'm tempted.) Glad you liked it, and we appreciate your comments.

And thank you, Dick
I'm glad I was able to produce a good track on this. You and Richard laid down some great rocking music, and I sure didn't want to mess it up. I appreciate you guys trusting me with it. Peace. Terry

my brother
.. you have found other brothers across the pond it seems. You and Dick really do mesh and the hard charger of a backer by Dick and Richard layers real well with your vocal. Nice one folks... it's on my rotation list.

Glad you checked this out, Jack. Our friends from England certainly have a knack for putting out good songs, and I'm happy to sing them. They're the Davisenglands you might say. I'm glad they've kept me busy in my dry period. Got some tracks headed your way soon. Thanks for the comments, from all of us.

It has a sort of rock rap feel to it
the way the lyrics just roll along! Great mix, although at times I kinda struggled to hear your vox. Love the lyrics. Slab City. Cool idea for a song!

Thanks, Freddy
I thought Richard's lyrics were pretty cool too. Some times I kind of fizzle as I run out of breath, and I think that happened in a couple of places. Rapping? Maybe I'm morphing in that direction. Got to keep with the times. Thanks for the kind words.

I like this tune.....
I would have dropped more... reverb ....and put a more bitter slant on it ....but all and all....knowing who it comes from.......damn good tune...... Did any of that make any sense ....LOL

Thanks, Karen.
If you're down that way near the California lowlands, I'm sure you'll find a vacant slab. Dick and Richard have been very generous letting me sing for them. I enjoyed this tune. We appreciate your kind words, and if this is the only way I can ride with you, I'll take it. Let's hit the road!

Big opening statement! A slice of Americana rock (with a bit of trans-Atlantic help :-)) Sparse drums and chugging guitars set the mood and you do a fine job, Terry, of bringing the story to life. Thanks, Peter.

Best way to kill time...
Sit down with a stranger and say, "Nice tattoo....so, what do you do?" This is also an inexhaustible resource for song material, as Richard shows us. Great working with this talented pair. Thanks for the comments, Peter. We're glad you enjoyed it.

Dark and brooding, just like I like it :) ....I dig these transatlantic collabs, it always provides a "ying" to the "yang". Nice job on all accounts!

Great collaboration
I love the driving rhythm of this number and the strong, edgy vocal performance is perfect for the style, too. The narrative is unique...kind of an "On The Road" slab of reality that one might find traveling to different places. The whole song struck me as being a little short, though. I was waiting for at least a quatrain to dive off in a slightly different direction so that the piece would have just a bit more variety. But what you have here is nevertheless pretty darned nice. I enjoyed the performance of this number.

I have to agree with you about it being over too quick. I thought it was just because I was having to much fun singing. I'm glad the vocals turned out well. I felt the music was great also. These guys are real pros.

Excellent collab gentlemen!
Even listening on my iPad I can hear how good this is. Terry's Americana meets some rather heavy Brit pulsy rock. Love the harmonies, love the music, lyrics, vox and production.
Seriously good.
Thanks guys.

Thanks Tempie
I'd tried a different vocal thing on the chorus that just didn't work, so I thought I'd settle for this, but it turns out this was much better. Glad you liked it. And yeah, story songs are some of my favorites. This music is huge, isn't it? Huge talent, these guys have.
