Description
Hey MJ'ers. It's been a while. Life gets in the way sometimes. New cities, new jobs, changes and rearrangements. This song has been in the works for a while, but just came together after I've had some real time to spend in the studio. Taking time off. Thinking about what I want to be doing in the future. I think the pensive, contemplative stage I find myself in is coming through in this. I sang and played everything, except the drums which are loops - although altered ones. Hope you enjoy it. I welcome constructive criticism - as well as sunshine.

Lyrics
Prussian Blue
© 2013 Racerat

Eyes, eyes that pierce the dark
Arrows miss their mark
Blood trails in the snow
Footprints come and go

Inside prussian blue
Light illuminates the pool
Deeper in the dark
Where our words are torn apart

Down, down inside a voice
Searching for a choice
Curse the words I said
Questions getting stronger

Outside, Outside footsteps fade
Inside I just pace
Curse the words I’ve said
Thoughts I can’t erase

Inside prussian blue
Light illuminates the pool
Deeper in the dark
Where our words are torn apart

Warm, warm inside the room
Sealed up like a tomb
Silence is a drowning vision
That’s surrounding me

Great, great, great...
I haven't been here much either in some time (for the same reasons), so I don't know what else I may or may not have missed for you, but this is a really great song! Great performance and arrangements - 80's pop ala Echo and the Bunnymen - some great guitars and vocals - need to listen to it more before giving more comments - these words are after two listenings... If I like a song after the first listening, like with this one, it is good in my ears... Great to hear from you again! /Mikki

Great
Hey Mikki. Glad to see you back here again, too! Thanks for the listen. I really dig your new song Two Little Birds as well. I can always count on you to deliver something different and inventive.

Has that 80's sound
but the introspection reminds me of the 60's. In saying, that I would have to mix in just a bit of Depeche Mode. In any case its a good composition and the production is very clear organized and well executed. So are all the performances, just in case you thought that was a backhanded compliment. Good job!

80's
Not really sure how to classify this one. I struggled with the genre as usual. I wish "washy synth moany 80's ballad thing" was a genre. Going to try to cycle through a bunch of compositions that have been languishing on my HD for ages and finally whip them into some kind of shape to post. Stay tuned. Loved Cheap Tricks!

Thanks Andrew. Love your new holiday rendition of Over the River. It's good to be back at MJ. So much has happened in the last couple years. It's great to know so many of the old guard are still here and holding down the fort. More to come…

Hey Vic. Thanks, solid yet a bit dreamy. Like it. Had a few listens to some MGNT songs I have but haven't gotten deep into them. I'll have to give them a better listen with that lens. Cheers.

Welcome Back
Life gets in the way, indeed. So, this an early Xmas present for us all. Great mix (like, shocker) and great, evocative lyrics. Your vocal reminds me of New Order, but more in tune. the vocal effects (or multitracking?) is ace, and the track has a wonderfully drowsy feel, which for some reason reminds me of the Doors a bit.

Don't leave to so long until the next one, 'kay?

Welcome Back
Steve-o! Yes, multi-tracking, but only two tracks per vocal. Two for the main, two for the chorus. Not a lot of effects, just some delay and wetter reverb than "normal" for me. But that is where music is going these days. Lots of 'verb! I have a few more in the can in final stages, so more to come. Hope to see a new one from you soon. Or maybe a collab if you're up for it?

Glad to hear from you
Hi ! Saw an alert in my mailbox this morning, telling me you've posted a new song. I've been away for a while too, I just come and go here, mostly hearing one or two songs, leaving no comments, without posting anything… And it's such a pleasure to hear this. Melancolic, sweet and deep. Loved that, but I hope you will get back to good'ol rockn'roll, you're so good at that ! My life has been too busy these last years for me to spend time here, although I still play a lot of guitar. I hope this one will be followed by new stuff, I'm still one of your faithfull listener.

Lurking
Hey Phil. Glad you took the time to stop in and check this out. I know what you mean. My life has been a rocket for a few years, and I recently decided to "step off" for a few months. Hence the ability to engage a little here. Yeah, my posts have gotten a bit softer, but rock is still very much in my soul and I have a harder song in the works. Stay tuned. I'll try not to disappoint. Still love Fortin Blues, get that Tele out a click the record button!

rough
Thanks Mark. It's been a while, but great to be back on the scene. Just had a listen to your last one Piano vs. Piano, nice! I am seriously challenged with keys - just a guitar jockey here. I plunk away and then get out the pen tool and quantize and somehow something happens. Thanks for the listen!

open flow
Thanks Sammy. I've had a bit of a "singers block" to overcome recently (like for the last 2 years) I just had to throw something out there and get over myself. I appreciate the comments, a little melancholic prussian blue to smooth the rough edges of the soul.

rack
Hey IP! I did the art, of course, being a designer-type. I started with image of a hot spring in Iceland- then went with the lyric about blood trails in the snow (which brought in the antlers) then worked in the silhouette of the girl, for the tortured relationship angle, and voila!: cover-art. Thanks for the help trouble-shooting the vox!

Washy synthy moany?
No, this is a great song, well performed right across the board and nicely conceived. That buzzy resonance in the bass(?) makes for a cool sound to kick things off. I also like the vox treatment which does bring in a dreaminess quality. I get more than a little depth to the lyrics too. A good listen! Thanks for the dload.

Bass
I struggled mightily with that bass. I wanted the bass to be prominent but I over-played the track and had a hell of a time mixing it. I considered re-recording it, but lost the energy to. Glad you think it works. Some times you just have to leave well enough alone and say it's baked.

dig the overlapping elements and the modal feel at the beginning that sets up the vibe. Solid work all around on this - the acoustic guitar throughout was an inspired choice.

modal feel
Thanks Kevin. The acoustic rhythm (there are 2) is a bit buried, but the lead noodling is on top and weaves in and out - thanks for the props. It's good to be back in the MJ swing. Lot's of cool stuff happening here lately actually. Loved Molly!
