Lyrics
I woke up alone
The second time this week
I really should have known
I'm on a losing streak

I'm not one to complain
But ever since you went away
It's always been the same
The skies are dull and grey

If I only had you
If I only had you

The house is in a state
It's just a place to hide
I try to meditate
I end up terrified

If I only had you

The world's an empty place
A smile without a face
You vanished without trace

An endless uphill climb
A jail without a crime
I'm in there all the time

more introspective
style for you. if this was just a hair 'harder', it could be one of those Indie songs playing at the end of a movie or during some dramatic scene. how'd you get that guitar sound on the left? sounds like an acoustic mixed with a banjo which i'm sure is not the case, but the combo is interesting.

I wasn't miserable
But I'd been listening to a soundtrack (The Divide) which had the main chord sequence (Am, F, G) and I thought I could use it for a song. The guitar is the Ovation, with slightly different settings in L and R channels. (Probably just GB chorus and maybe some reverb for the L channel.) So, yes, it is very much a soundtrack song, and it gave me the opportunity to come up with some grim lyrics, as opposed to the usual Smart Aleck ones. The object of my desire is, however, an old Triumph sports car! I appreciate your interest as always, Sam.

Really love the sound of this recording.
... especially the piano and vocal settings. Very compelling lyrics ... car love is tragic sometimes. The break at about 2:30 was totally cool. Very much enjoyed and downloaded.

Actually
I was thinking about my wife, but I knew she was coming back soon, so subbed the Triumph as an unobtainable thingy in the visual. Thank you for listening, Mr Lost. (Or Mrs/Ms Lost.)

Baffled.
You are LostSongs and I claim my ten quid. Either way, thanks for the interest. It's always good to know someone listened, let alone made time to comment.

If I Only Had You
Interesting acoustic piano sound ... lyrics are different from you ... guitars sound great ...that single note lead at around 3:36 is very U2-ish ... but cleaner tonally ... nice ending.

It's just a GB piano.
I put some effects on it, but nothing drastic. The guitar is an attempt at Bruce Soord's sound in "I will Light Up Your Eyes". I've listened to little else for a year, since I discovered Pineapple Thief. Lyrically, blame PT! Also, it's good to try something different. The Milkman is on his way! It'll probably be Christmas before I get to it though, sadly.

Longing
Great "what if" sort of piece - very down tempo - I love the mix on this.

Grungey
But not violent enough at that middle bit. I'll get hold of one of my drummer pals to do the job one of these days. Thanks for stopping by, Mike.

This is great Graham. I'm both reveling in the lyrics and performances and thinking WHO is it that this reminds me of. Not just 'a pop song'. No, it's much more significant than that. Nicely put together, certainly well performed, but mostly I love the feeling of longing you capture. Kudos. And thanks for the dload.

It reminds me of me
Everything about me reminds me of me. Except me. I think I've used this Groucho joke before on MJ, but it bears repetition. When you figure it out, let me know, because I don't know. Pineapple Thief inspired bits of it. Thank you very much for listening. I wish I had time to do a lost Badfinger track for the latest challenge. It's yielded some corkers so far.

Heartfelt.
It really has the feeling in it, this one. I'm a sucker for well-played guitar too and that tail end is fine guitar work, so that had me hooked. Thanks for that download, it will be listened to many times I expect!

Thank you, Mr Angel. No doubt I'll be refining it in the weeks to come, but this version is quite listenable, and close to what I want.

Cooler
Cooler than the pop songs they write today. Classy vintage music, like the car in the photo. Thanks.

It's a runner
and it's for sale. When I took the pic in 2010 the car was in excellent condition. The music? Glad you think it's "classic." I don't know what to make of my tunes most of the time, and just hope they don't sound too amateurish. Ta for listening, Mr P.

Modern pop
is so samey. The 60's was a great time for singles. You never knew what to expect. Now it's done by copying whatever was popular last week. Sad.

If I Only Had You
I love that this is a love song for a car. I'll have to write one for my re gently released Victory 8Ball motorcycle, Victoria. I miss her so. Great passages through this tune, from piano ballad to downtempo soundtrack emo shoe-gazer. Ditto on the one-note guitar lead. Very cool!

I'd quite like a TR4A
We have the weather and the roads for such a vehicle in Freeport, but I would fear for its safety.

I like the one - note solo too. I'm going to beef it up in the next mix. Just waiting for a new mike to arrive before I get started. Thanks for listening, Mr Rat.

Smooth and cool
Like the TR4A (but hopefully more reliable)

You've caught a really nice groove here. Big guitars (acoustic and electric) and a great hook line (wish I could get harmonies like that).

Cheers

Dick

Moody
Yes, the song was an attempt to build a particular mood, going from misery to desperation - fun, eh? I'm working on the drums sound and am going to try out the new mike this weekend sometime. Thanks for your kind words, Philip.

nice car
great song
like the singing on this all the wooos
great acoustic sounding guitar
the subdued drums that come in are a great touch it lifts it up with out taking away from the emotion of this song
btw the clapping and piano really stick in your head
Enjoyed!

Cheers, Mr E
I think they're a bit too subdued, so I'll be monkeying around with them. Meanwhile I'm busy messing up Bob Rodgers' "On the Mountain" for him. It's quite liberating doing someone else's tune.

I know that guitar line at 4:00 from somewhere --- it will come to me. But fabulous work. I would have gone bigger, but your restraint is a valuable asset, and part of what makes the GE sound. Yeah.

Please tell me
... because I don't know. We all nick stuff, sometimes consciously (tee hee!) but apart from a vague Pineapple Thief connection, I don't know where it comes from. Thanks for stopping by, and when are we going to get some more Klooey goodness? (Cracks whip.) Also, check out "On the Mountainside", what I just done with Bob Rodgers. I can brag about it because I didn't write it or play it, but I did contribute words and vocals. I'm chuffed with the results.
