Lyrics
The Government Called

Government called In 69
Went to a war that was so unkind
I didn’t want to go
It was not right
But I went and I did fight

Sleeping one night
Bomb threw me off my rack
3 officers died after the attack
Wonder how their families are?
Did they have a love back home or a favorite car?
Was their send off full of kisses and hugs
Many made it back are now of drug

Did those 3 have wives that loved them so?
But to most their just another Joe
Their wives probably married again
With hidden letters they never did send

Time can be cruel a human life goes a way
And a new one makes another stay
That baby grew he became a man
Government called wanting his helping hand

Sad Times
I'm sorry you had to live through that Bill, although I am glad you made it through. You hit the nail on the head. None of us wanted to go but you did and so did a lot of my friends. I was actually drafted and set to go but flunked two physicals. Viet Nam still disrupted my life and so many others. All the politicians like to glorify it and make it into a noble thing when actually it is the worst thing that can happen to a people and their families. Great job, love it, five stars!

Yes
I am glad I didn't have to shoot a gun. I did carry one and had to guard a base before the one that got bombed. But I never did shoot a gun except at boot camp training before we went over, But that is the main reason I joined the navy was to get out of the army because that might of been the first place I would go would be Viet Nam. Luckily I got in the Sea Bees and made blocks for houses for the Viet Nam soldiers that were on side of the americans. I taught I guy named Martin to play the guitar in Viet Nam during the 358 days I was on land. Even during general alerts I would be playing the guitar.

So again, that is how I wanted it, I was never into shooting a gun but I did "fight" in the sense that when I was guarding a base I would of had to use that thing but thank God I didn't have to.

It is so easy to get sucked into things in this life that get more untrue once we study it's history.
Even most everybody goes to school and learns mainstream education and most of it turns up wrong the more we study current methods of technology etc. So it is for most military wars. I think Hitler had to be stopped or we would not of been in a good position for sure in America. Thanks Tom!

One great thing though
4 people were selected to go to the Bob Hope Show and I was one of them. We went on a transport plane and now I can say I saw Bob Hope live and his Les Brown Band and Gloria Loring the singer etc.

It's refreshing...
... to hear your sounds again, Mr. Furner. It's been quite a long time for me. That's a touching story you had, and you got me with that last line too.

Lovely tribute...
A tough time for sure for so many who went to Vietnam and for many whose loved ones never returned.

Shades of Johnny Cash in your vocal. I really like it. And of course your finger style playing is par excellence!

Bill
Sounds in the style of the Green Beret song that came out back in the day. Subject matter is a bit different and most men our age can totally identify. Glad you are here to tell the tale.

Powerful work Bill
raw and un-sentimental.
