Description
Our good friend, Sloparts, has been away for a while now. I’m sure he’s mastered that heavenly harp by now. Ed was an inspiration to everyone he came in contact with. It only takes two seconds to recognize a good soul, and Ed gave himself away in one. Many of us had the privilege to collaborate with Ed., and this song is just our way of trying to relive those times.
Ed posted this track which he described as a “bit of self-indulgence.” That was back in November, 2010. He put it out there, more or less, as open for collaboration. I commented that I was tempted to jump in with my own self-indulgence, but that it looked like he already provided everything it needed. He said, “Glad you like where it’s at now, let me know if I can help take it where you think it needs to go.” I sure wish I had jumped on it then, when he was with us. Procrastination is the thief of time.
I don’t know if this is where it should have gone, but I know that we all had fun with it, and that is an important tenant in Slopartology. Awigze and Guygrooves, and myself have all worked with Ed before, and we’re pretty certain Ed would have had a lot of fun with this too. We hope you enjoy it. “Be well, and be cool.” Terry

Guy sez: Thanks to everyone involved. Andy your sax was near perfect. I still get an image of an old 50s something Ford bouncing down the road on bald tires and bad shocks when I hear your solo. Richard your B3 line would have or probably did have Ed saying OH YA!!!! Great track brother. Terry the song has so much spirit and character. The way you sang it will never be duplicated you are the only singer for this song. Andy your vocal touches blended seamlessly. The harmonica was way better than you will ever admit. Thats why most all of it is still there. This is easily as much fun as I ever had with Ed although I am pretty sure he was there for the whole ride.Thank you gentlemen I am honoured to have worked with you.
Peace

Andy sez: This tune came at just the right time for me. The knowledge of coming from Sloparts thru Terry made me want to jump on immediately. The energy of the tune and working with Ed again as well as Terry and Guy made this mandatory around my little studio. I really liked the way Terry handled Ed's guitar parts and Guy’s ending notes. Hope everyone enjoys this one.

Vocals: Terry Pearson,(davisamerica2) Andy Wigzell (Awigze)
Sax: Andy Wigzell (Awigze)
Guitars: Ed Wemmerus, (Sloparts) Guy Groves (Guygrooves)
Organ: Rich Gray (rgPaddler)
Harmonica: Terry Pearson
All other music: Ed Wemmerus

And thanks to Jack Hemby (davisamerica) for his ears and encouragement,

Lyrics
Roly Poly Ford
As I was rollin’ up the road I was thinkin’ of you
And a crazy idea came right of the blue
As I climbed the hill in my Roly Poly Ford
I recalled when I was leavin’ something sittin’ by the door
Wha’d I see on the floor?
Was that your suitcase that was sittin’ by the door?

I can’t recall just what you said.
Your lips were movin’ and you might’a shook your head
I tried to think, and lookin’ back.
I think an overcoat was missin’ from the rack
And as I thought, I got alarmed.
I think you might’a had it hangin’ from your arm

On the right I hugged the mountain
On the left I hugged the sky
And there was no way that movin’ van
Would ever let me by
Well I started gettin’ nervous
Then I was gettin’ scared
My baby’s gone to Mama’s
Thinkin’ I never cared
Hey buddy, move it over!
Man, where’d you learn to drive?
My woman’s tryin’ to leave me
C’mon, c’mon, let’s look alive!

On the right I hugged the mountain
On the left I hugged the sky
And, Man! I wish this Roly Poly
Knew how to fly!
But I kept those wheels a rollin’
These Fords are hard to beat
But a geriatric motor
Is quick to overheat
Just seven miles an hour
And I had the sucker floored
I was even pushin’
With my foot outside the door

It’s a shockin’ revelation, but I guess it was due
This Roly Poly Ford must take a back seat too
I never thought I’d learn it on a Sunday mornin’ drive
When you got an angry woman, there’s a trick to stayin’ alive
There ain’t no trick to dyin’ but as far as I can tell
It’s a hard climb to Heaven, and an easy fall to Hell

A lot going on here!
Sounds like you chaps were having a real blast!

A real kicking bar band ;-)

Great story of the creation of the song and the song itself.

I'm sure Ed would have been proud.

Cheers

Dick

These guys laid down some excellent tracks for Ed's song here. Guy's guitar, Andy's sax, Rich's organ; Ed would have gotten a kick out of it. I know I did. We all appreciate the kind words. Peace.

in their roly poly Ford. A great bit of self-indulgence. Heck, isn't that synonymous with rock and roll? Well done, fellas...

It was fun for us, Bro
I loved the way Guy mixed all this together. He did a superb job, and his guitar worked in great with Ed's. Andy's sax always amazes me, and I couldn't resist his vocals. They provided an imagery to the story, I think. Rich can work those keys like no one else. Always a treat! Thanks for riding with us.

Wouldn't have been the same without yo, Andy
Your sax sounds great on this. I'm thankful to Guy for doing the mix, and giving your solo a clean and polished sound. I wasn't doing it justice. Your vocals, for me, are the best part. I crack up every time you deliver those lines. I know Ed would have gotten a kick out of it. Guy and Rich were amazing! Yeah, lets do it again. T

This is a very cool song that sounds like it was a blast to play on. Love the lyrics, Terry. Guy, you did a great job with this monster of a mix. You can really hear Ed's influence all throughout this one, and man - what a fun ride. Great job by ALL - enjoyed!

OKAY YOU GUYS! I am listening to this in Ed's studio and his picture ison the desk and it's "jammin' all over the place". It's the photo of him playing his guitar and I swear he was playing right along with all of you! I had to turn the sound up just to hear the rest of you playing!!! LUV IT......LUV IT...........L U V I T !!!! GREAT JOB!
davisamerica2 said 1162 days ago (January 15th, 2014)
That's the way to listen to this, Jeannie!
We all had his picture in our minds as we did this. One thing we insisted on was to keep his track as the solid foundation. Guy did a great job in achieving this. We're all still missing this man very much, and this helps. We're all glad you "Luv it Luv it Luv it!" That means a lot to us. Be well and be cool, Jeannie. Peace. Terry
