Description
i recorded the music for this piece around a year ago. for some reason i can’t remember i shelved it.

heck, i couldn’t even remember what it sounded like. so two weeks ago i reopened it and decided to get the mix done and work on the lyrics and vocals.

i have a few songs in the works, but this has been like a monkey on my back and needed to be put to rest so i can refocus on the other songs.

Lyrics
Push And Pull

it comes down to push and pull
when you have to have it your own way
friday afternoon watching the clock
everyone wants to end the day oh oh oh

well you learn you pushed to far
when things are going sour
you hope that someone will drag you out
from under the rock you crawled under

to demanding in obscure ways
the blank look says it all
the knife that could cut the tension
is rusted and has seen better days
oh oh oh

it comes down to push and pull
push and pull away

well you learn you pushed to far
when things are going sour
you hope that someone will drag you out
from under the rock you crawled under

well we can drag this thing
through the dirt until its sore and bleeds
the bandage placed on the wound
will only peel and fall away oh oh oh

Powerful guitars in a melodic riff. Sharp solo around the 1:54 mark. Maybe the vocal could be a bit less restrained, given the content of the lyrics (I'm thinking of "Like a Rolling Stone" as a model for intensity). Anyway, as always, I love listening to your work, Vic.

i know what you mean, i find the key of D limits me, so the more even approach. could be why i shelved this for a year :-)

I like the wide mix.
Guitars are fantastic, has a poppy sound to it in a good way. Love the changes and like your music, many strategic catchy ones. Well done... I'm glad you dusted this off.

4 rhythm guitars spread out. on certain tracks, like the 4 rhythm guitars, in this case i use the directional mixer instead of panning. can make a better presence.

One of your best! The backing arrangement and chord progressions are excellent. The little Beatle-ish guitar riffs work nicely. Killer solo. Great tone and phrasing.

Not use to hearing the big synth opening from you. I love the almost commercial pop melody ... Great guitar layers and cool chord progression in the verses ... this is great Vic! Glad you dug it out.

Solid guitars...
...propel this number from the opening bars. Excellent playing and good mix of all the elements to support your vocal. ... Vocal is, as someone else said, a little restrained. You could push it a bit more out front in the mix and just LET GO! Be careful with your vocal pitch. Too many cadences where it is just a mite off the mark. Maybe punching your volume will do the trick.

Nicely balanced and catchy song - very symmetrical with touches of the Undertones from way back. I liked the mix as well with everything where it should be and no clutter. Very much enjoyed.

For me this has the typical Vic Holman sound, which is a good thing. I would be interested in knowing who your influences are/were when developing musically. I think that we most likely have listened to many of the same artists, but tend to pull different nuances from them. Good stuff.

This is wonderful work Vic. Has a definite 70s guitar sound to it, the likes of Stones, Byrds as mentioned above that I agree entirely with.

Push Pull Put to rest.....
It's good to have things out of the way. They block the flow of creativity.

Good enough tune, this but to me "oh oh oh" is kind of a cop-out in the lyrics. And a 45 second intro is a bit much for a 3 minute pop song. But on the whole I still enjoyed this.
