Inverloch Morning (with Rok41)

Description
Once again, this started as a set of chords that I played over until a melody emerged. I then sent a guitar backing and lead line to Chris Flynn (Rok41) to add some bass. He sent back a bass track and and drum track. Things didn't seem quite to sit right (my timing was flaring about a bit...), so I redid my parts using the drums and bass as the starting points. I'll leave you to judge if that worked out!

The lead is played on my Gibson Howard Roberts Guitar.

Inverloch is a small, pretty coastal town in Victoria, Australia.

My thanks to Chris for his work on this- he is a fine musician!

Thanks
Glad you liked it, Vic. I try other guitars, but keep coming back to the HR guitar for the lead in these sort of tunes. Yes, you gotta love Chris's work!

Hey Philip
I've been working on trying to come up with interesting progressions, nice job dude, Chris is like a rock, pun intended (in the best sense) solid playing guys, excellent production, thoroughly enjoyable listen. Jd.

Interesting progressions
I often get out a book of standards and see what those guys were doing with chord progressions - plenty of ideas there! Thanks for the positive comments, JD - much appreciated!

Philip, this came out nicely; a very sweet mix. As always, it was a pleasure, thanks for trusting me once again with your music. I think the time corrections really made a difference, great job. This Inverloch place sounds awesome.

Hi Chris
It's always a privilege to have you onboard, Chris. I think of you as the George Harrison of bass players - able to do exactly what the song requires, relying on sculptured style rather than ostentation. I appreciate your honesty about what you're hearing, too! Thanks again for helping out with this one.

Inverloch Morning
The music suits the picture wonderfully well, Philip. "Howard" is is fine voice. The accompanying guitars fill out the mix nicely. I really like Chris's bass work in this, too. So smooth and melodic. Another fine collab between you two. Talk soon. Regards, Peter.

All good
Thanks for the comment on the song, Chris - much appreciated. As you are probably aware, lots of convicts came over here and they managed to nick a few places to bring with them - Lismore and Clare from Ireland, Rutherglen and St Andrews from Scotland, Doncaster and Eltham from England. I'm surprised it's taken this long for anyone to notice!

Carefree day
I'm not a great one for being on the water - I'd rather just sit and look at it! But I'm glad you thought this one came together - there was a bit of fiddling to get to that! Thanks for stopping by, Tom.

I like it, very much, yet it sits oddly in my phones
I very much like this piece ... it is a very good progression of musical ideas. And yet, it “sits” very oddly in my headphones, especially the right-hand ones, where the rhythm guitar seems to live, and which sounds almost-distractingly “hot,” stealing my attention away from the lead.

Thanks
Glad you liked the tune, Mike. Interesting comment on the rhythm guitar on the right. Often I use a couple of acoustics for the rhythm tracks, but this time the right side one is electric - I'll have another listen and see what I've done there! Thanks for stopping by.

melody
Nice as this sounds, my attention wanders. I feel that it never establishes a melody. You play three or four lines that to me all feel like they would be a great start of a solo, *after* you have played a melody.

Philip18 said 1146 days ago (March 11th, 2014)
Melody
Interesting comment, Vic. I must admit I thought it was a bit the other way around - that the tune was mainly melody and could have done with some more getting away from that. Maybe the secret is that it should be a bit longer (although that's always a danger) so that the melody could be solidly established with some freedom for a solo? Anyway, thanks for listening and for the thoughtful comment. Cheers, Philip.

Melody
Your tune is melo_dic_. To me it lacks something that I would whistle after the tune has ended.

Quite different from you...
My first thoughts go to "road-trip music." It's the motion and that sort of "late '60's" feel of the tune that put me in an Oldsmobile convertible just moseying down the road on a lazy afternoon. So, cinematic track...to me, and nicely played.
