Lyrics
THE ERIE LACKAWANNA MARIJUANA TALKING BLUES
[Buckley/Smith] 2014

The factory's been shut for three years
I quit crying not to water down this cheap beer
There’s no union left to accept my dues
I got the Erie Lackawanna marijuana talking blues

Even if I could leave I got no place to go
Who knew getting high could make you feel so low?
There's no choice left when I finally get to choose
I got the Erie Lackawanna medical marijuana talking blues

My extended benefits have expired
Who knew the unemployed could still get fired?
The God of Justice must be taking a snooze
I got the Erie Lackawanna marijuana talking blues

I've gone through all of my savings
I've reduced my existential cravings
My Sunday dinner might be my Sunday shoes
I got the Erie Lackawanna marijuana talking blues

Is it any wonder that my
soon-to-be ex-wife calls me
the train wreck of her life?

Existential
It's the best way to be.

Loved everything about this. Guitars (with the clever little "quotes"), vocals (suitably unhinged), lyrics (ditto), drums at the end where the drummer appears to have woken from their drug-induced stupor and suddenly remembered they were supposed to be playing, splendid outro (hope the settlement wasn't too punitive)

nice one Warren :-)

Cheers

Dick

Between the idea and the reality
The idea for this song had been hibernating for decades. Then one day the structure connected with the memory .. and it simply flowed out in a succinct series of garageband sessions. I love it when that happens!

Title
From one train song (mine) to another (yours - "Choo Choo Lovin'").

There's something about train songs that brings the groove on. Perhaps it's the famous rhythm of the rails.

This song flowed from the title; once that was conceived, a song needed to be written : )

Conspiracy
Talk about a conspiracy! Just about the time they finally get around to legalizing the weed, no one can afford to buy any because they lost their job, hahahah! Almost makes you want to turn to drugs.

Almost
Ha-ha-hah! That would've been a good line to stick in a verse. If I ever revisit the lyrics I'm gonna use it : )

A serious lyric...
...masquerading as a hoot. This is just so clever. Talk about tongue-in-cheek! The little squeely guitars are a great idea for this kind of piece.

Choo-choo tooting
In order to keep it train-like, it would be a hoot masquerading as a toot.

Thanks for listening and commenting, Paul.
