As Brian's masterpiece closes the 60's 20 months early. This one closes something else. Her long hair?
Naw... she lost something far dearer...:)

Wait! Dare I say it? This is almost accessible... Almost :-) Diggin' the bass and piano. A bit of a "free form" at the end, too. I've just been experienced again. Daug gone it. Take care, Peter.

Hello Peter
Almost accessible, that means it is comfortable sounding in your ears? The form fits into a recognizable pattern? There is a chorus that repeats four times! I never do that. Or perhaps the harmony meets sonic expectations? None of the usual rhythmic liberties? If I were to continue on this way, would the music be better? Have to get rid of the bitch solo at the end too. Naw. I wouldn't do that :)
Glad you stopped by, appreciate yer strong support. See ya next time.

Hello John
Thanks for coming by the house and commenting. This one has as many tones as anything else I have posted. It has more conventional material and conforms to popular song format more than most things I have shared ;) Not dumbed down one bit. I know you wouldn't sit down for that ;) See you next time!

Hey Dick
The standard disclaimer appears 'cos Harold nearly burned his house down listening to "Postcard". I felt humbled and upset because I realized that was really what I try to accomplish. I am making stuff that encourages people to suspend their disbelief and enter the music completely. When that happens normal life becomes jealous and mayhem occurs. Just trying to keep things safe!
Appreciate you stopping by and commenting. See you next time;)

The unusual and usual mayhem... Nice concept and. Could to see you are still lurking the cave. Ha! I used the word, Mayhem before I read your comment back to Dick. the percussion really makes this tune work and the vocals. diggin the solos. My normal life is jealous, now.

cool nature sounds right off the bat.
Lots of interesting sounds very progressive. Cool bass going on with lots of jazz funk. Cool expressive vocal with singing and talking in with lot of style.

Way to go. Like how you use Jazz with nature! Interesting approach one I think works. Cool leads and the works.

Thanks for sharing !

Pet Sounds?
What kind of Pets have you unleashed here... fire-breathing dragons and devil dogs? LOL

Nice job incorporating all these various textures and styles into something reasonably musical. Really a very entertaining trip.

I'm not sure that Brian would like it, but I'm sure the Zapman would. ;)

Mr. J.A.S in the house
How nice, look around the house, dragons and dogs, solos over the form, are common or "Pet Sounds" on my pallet. That's Brian's point. Glad to hear this piece appears to be reasonably musical and you were entertained. Can't wait to hear your version of the ideas, the challenge is made ;)

Out of my sphere...
...of understanding and/or expertise. But...I love the bass that pounds through this with such insistence and that wonderful guitar riff around 2:30 is (can I say it?) "killer." (Ok. I date myself.) I wonder if the smoke actually clears after a hard-solid track like this one. (Lyrics are incidental, right? 'cuz I couldn't understand more than maybe 20%.) This certainly was a lot of fun to listen to.

Daugrin said 1159 days ago (March 21st, 2014)
Ah, Mr Page
The first solo is performed on Fender Rhodes. This instrument reached it's height of popularity in the early 1970s. The Rhodes is a portable electric piano.

It can be heard on many popular music tunes from that period. Stevie Wonder popularize the instrument, which can also be heard on nearly every essential fusion recording. My favorite Rhodes player is Donald Fagen.

Second solo, played on a midi keyboard, has a very different flavor, is delivered through a synth in Logic. The phrasing, when compared to the first solo, is smooth and lyrical. This is due in part to the nature of the midi keyboards smaller plastic keys which feature a spring mechanism allowing for substantial increases in speed and accuracy. Not possible to perform this solo on a piano keyboard.

The words to my tunes are essential. To understand this tune, and realize it's connection to Brian Wilson's masterpiece from the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" album, "Caroline No", from 1967, one must listen to both songs multiple times. Investing the time in listening and considering what the artist is putting down, especially on Brian's ground breaking recording, would be well worth the time.

IMHO Brian's work is unsurpassed in it's insight into the American psyche. "Caroline No" is about lost innocence, coming of age, self doubt and much more. In general, it is considered the 60s end in 1968, some twenty months after Brian's last fully realized album "Pet Sounds" is released.

"Caroline No" features a discussion about the nature of the relationship between the sexes and so closely parallels the social developments from the advent of sexual liberation provided by birth control that it represents a perfect one stop shop to get to these issues. The music in Brian's tune is also nice, comfortable, and "pop" for many listeners.

The third solo was performed on a modern electric guitar named "Bitch". The "woman" tone assumed here recalls Jimi Hendrix's aggressive tone from the same period that the BW track above was released. Part of Brian's problem was Hendrix announced to the world that "surf music" or "pop music" was dead, long before most of America was ready to hear the message.

My tune climbs onto Brian's coat tails and demonstrates how the issues raised in Brian's tune have evolved over the intervening years. My "Pet Sounds" are very different from Brian's. Unfortunate you can't understand the lyric Mr. Page. Caroline is a very different girl nowadays, "pop music" is the same in a relative way and Brian is- well, our good friend who hopefully found peace and mercy in the winter of his troubled life.
