Long Long Winter w/rok41

Description
I have wanted to do a collab project with Chris (Rok41) for some time. When I contacted Chris I had two different songs that I thought that I would run by him. But I started thinking that they pretty much dictated how the bass would go. I decided to shelve those and came up with this, so Chris would have some elbow room to add his magic touch. This goes through several timing changes plus some odd chord voicings. Chris did a excellent job of navigated though this.

Around two weeks ago when i wrote the lyrics the high temperature was 20 degrees, 25 mile hour winds and snowing like a son of a bitch. Today had a high temp. of 52 degrees, go figure.

Lyrics
long long winter

green lights on northern nights
closed my eyes in despite
gray stays in winter days
underwhelming depressing haze
shift the light of day from gray

sterile land white as bone
and those bones buried in snow
naked trees rattle their limbs
creaking in the arctic winds
and i rattle my own brain from the storm

it’s a long long winter
it’s a long long winter
white knuckles frozen to the core
and i want to be anywhere where it’s warm warm

here the wind takes breathe away
your blood freezes inside your veins
drifting snow and icey roads
i’ll be happy to see it go
shift the light of day from gray

it’s a long long winter
it’s a long long winter
white knuckles frozen to the core
and i want to be anywhere where it’s warm warm

long winter

It has been a long winter Vic, even here in Texas. I really enjoyed this collab, always been a fan of yours. Excellent writing and composing, and it easily captured that fog of winter feeling. Thanks for having me on board, and until the next one, keep jamming!

brought this together really well. chorus has a kinda airy 60s Floyd quality--back when Barrett was still with them. great timings used.

Thinking this has to be good. Vic and Chris - yeah! You really set Chris a test, Vic. And of course he delivered (as we all knew he would). The timing changes give the song a unique feel. Fine vocal work, quality guitars and bass that really helps define the mood. Fine collaboration. Thanks, guys. Regards, Peter.

sometimes i don't realize what kind of time signatures i create until the recording process. chris handled it and the stereo spread he created is genius, giving his bass work a full sound

Long winter
We don't see snow where I live (unless you head to the mountains) and the thought of having to battle it as a daily routine is ugly! Strong lyrics, searing guitar and emotive vocal. Chris's bass adds both solidity and variety to the sound. Fine work from both of you!

Long Long Winter
I wish I could relate, but I live in So. Cal and it has been one of the milder winters we have had - it's about 80 today. But that aside, I really like this tune, Vic! Nice arrangement - I really dig that 5/4 beat - very cool! Nice textured guitar work throughout, and adding Chris' talent to the rhythm section is always a good move - his bass is smooth and fits perfectly in the pocket for this tune. I enjoyed this one Vic - great job both you guys!

Something about...
... the drums and the rhythm gives it an incredibly unique and cool sound. I can't put it in words but it's working very VERY well here. This is a classic Holman tune.

The topic is very relevant as well... I'm living in Michigan :( Last Tuesday, the high was 49. The following day, Wednesday, it snowed about 8 inches. It's been a ridiculously long and cruel winter, in every aspect.

You captured that well here. Fabulous collab!

ha! i knew....
.... you would relate. the weather in your area was way more brutal.
there is a mash up of time signatures 6/4, 5/4, 4/4 and maybe 2/4 as well. that kind of thing can create a cool tension

Timing and Odd chords...
...all add up to a really unique, special track, Vic. There are shades of the Beatles hiding in your treatment of the vocals that are really appealing, too. The bass line is particularly interesting to me and provides such a powerful counterpoint to those BIG guitars you've got going on. Pro mix, I'd say. Marvelous number that I enjoyed immensely.

Long long long long long long winter
Chris did an excellent job navigating for sure. A superb choice as a collar partner. But then there are some solid musical signposts along the way. Fine work all round, as usual, but I still have to say it. Vocals and guitar solos have that semi-dreamy quality that makes this song work really well. Appreciate the dload guys. Many thanks.
