Leaves of Autumn (with Groove Hounds)

Description
I often practice by taking a chord progression from a standard song and improvising over it. This started with the chord progression of Autumn Leaves. I eventually came up with an alternate melody line, and thought it would be good to get another guitarist in to provide variety and interest. Who better than Stan Gadziola? I sent Stan a file with my parts there, with gaps for him to fill. I suggested he might like to get the Groove Hounds in on it, too. This is what came out of that. It's just what I was hoping for! My thanks to Stan, Donnie and Rob for their work on this, and Stan for the mixing duties, too. I hope you enjoy listening.

Guitars (left): Philip Gardner
Guitars (right): Stan Gadziola
Drums: Donnie MacNeil
Bass: Rob George

What a beauty.
Lovely guitar, plenty of subtlety in there which I personally prefer to shredding. Nothing wrong with shredding of course, I like to hear it in small doses, but this is preferable for me personally. Latin influences abound and give it a lot of movement, so lots of reasons to like it.

Wonderful interplay between you two. Philip playing the smooth melody man and Stan channelling a touch of the George Benson's :-) Rob's bass lines are mighty tasteful and Donnie keeps things kicking along nicely. A fine listen and a fine collaboration. Thanks, Peter.

Magic
Very kind of you, Ricky, but I think a lot of the magic on this one comes from Stan, Donnie and Rob - they've taken something skeletal and added flesh. Those soft-touch octaves and flashing runs of Stan's reminded me of Wes, too. Great to hear from you!

Leaves of Autumn
I guess I'm not familiar with Autumn Leaves (or its chord progression) because this sounds original to me. I'm hearing some real nice guitar playing both left side and right side headphones. Drums and bass are spot on. Nice mix and very pleasant listen!

Now, this is smooth-jazz at its finest!
Expertly played, creatively arranged, and well mixed throughout.   The ending feels a bit abrupt and awkward as the sails of the boat suddenly deflate and the boat is becalmed.

Groovy Beat...
I don't know enough about rhythm styles, but this is sort of bossa-nova-ish in my ears. Such smooth guitar work playing off of one another with those slick melodic lines and counterpoint. And the bass just keeps it all together in such a tight package. Plenty of virtuosity going on here to make this an eminently satisfying track to listen to. My only nit is its brevity. I could easily stand another couple of minutes without getting tired, maybe jacking the whole thing up a notch in pitch a couple of times along the way to give a bit more "lift" to the number. This was really cool, though, and I enjoyed not only the song itself, but the masterful way you've all collaborated and ultimately mixed the piece. You guys are such pros! Superb.
