Fragments of Memories

Description
i recorded this last weekend fairly quickly, like the old days. however, each night this past week i would keep tweaking the mix. chance are it probably ended up like the original mix. also this was the first chance to record a gibson '61 reissue that i bought from a cool vintage guitar shop down the street from where i work.

as i get older at times i will remember something from the past. not deja vu, but just things forgotten. so, that inspired the lyrics for this.

Lyrics
Fragments of Memories

i saw your reflection in someone else’s eyes
cast like a ghost somewhere lost in time

fragments of memories on forgotten times
fragments of memories shedding some light

tattoos and faded notes illustrate your soul
in the waters of my mind memories do drown

fragments of memories on forgotten times
fragments of memories shedding some light

going down, wandering around, where is my mind
so many years ago i still try to hold them down

fragments of memories on forgotten times
fragments of memories shedding some light

what i
like best about your tunes is that you piece together song parts that could themselves alone be a song. still you make them work as one unit in a compos. obviously no exception here. rockin the house again.

i was almost compelled not to go back to a verse chorus at the end but take it somewhere else. may happen at some point yet.

Classy Vic
Familiar yet new. Deja vu?

Great sound from the guitar (although I suspect that you'd get a good sound out of an old plank ;-))

Loved the lyrics.

Cheers

true that. there were a few older rock bands that came to mind on doing this piece. nothing intentional but maybe inspirational.

sixties!
Nice byrds feel to this one! Really enjoyed that. Nice solo too, although I thought a bit of reverb or echo on the solo would have integrated it into the mix better. I like the tone on your voice, again very sixties. Cool.

Classic VH riffage and vocals. Can't be anyone else. Nice one. '61 reissue, eh. How many guitars is that now? Up there with Steven Stills yet? :-) Take care, Peter.

um, 24.

i actually went into the music shop close to work to buy a set of acoustic strings. it's dangerous to go into the shop since he carries vintage and collectable guitars. whoever bought this 2007 '61 reissue model shelled out $2,000 us dollars. i got it for half that. hard to pass up

i actually started working on a different tune, then i realized it sounded to '80's hair metal band. shelved that one, so this was next in line. recorded quickly but i kept making minor mix tweaks night after night. more minor tweaks have popped in my head since....... it doesn't end

nice tone coming from your new guitar Vic, must be quite tempting working down the street from a vintage guitar shop :-)

Soaring melody line, rich tones to the guitars, interesting arrangement. Fine work, Vic! Working just near a vintage guitars shop - how good is that?!

it's a blessing and a curse with the shop so close. a lot to drool over. plus he does great repair work. so there are advantages

Fragments of Memories
Nice opening synth ... the reissue sounds great Vic! ... nice and fat ... Sometimes the best things happen quickly but I know what you mean about picking at mixes ... and yes, going back to the original ... a complete circle. It's like you you've got to try all these things before you realize the first was the best. Anyway, I'm babbling. Great song and I really like the double lead harmony at about 2:46 ... excellent chorus.
Cheers

Love, love the Gibson sound - I have mixed feelings about the "comeback" of the SG - I like it's "almost forgotten" appeal. To me, some of your stuff borders on prog, but with a vintage vibe - which is what I took from this. Very hard to pull that off - and very cool. great guitar and vox as always!

Fragments
Well Vic, when we talk about fragments, to me that means spaces of utter confusion between all those fragments, and the older I get, the larger those spaces grow lol. But I DO remember the SG, made famous in part by good ol Angus Young - man I loved that guitar! Nice find and it sounds great! Cool tune Vic - enjoyed!

Love the changes
Especially the short progression after the phrase and the first lead matches it. The SG sounds great, if it's like mine I find the sound to be in the lower range with a lot of power. Nice build on the song, classic Holman that always brings me back for more.

Excellent
I thought I was listening to Be-Bop Deluxe. Your sound is wonderfully similiar. If you're not familiar with them, they're an English band from the 60s & 70s, their album Axe Victim is one of my favorites. they're on itunes.

Anyway, I really like this song the way it shifts gears in style and intensity. A winner for sure.

Grab those memories while you can! There's too much good stuff we let slip away. The 61 reissue was was worth the bucks, sounds like it fits your hands perfectly. Loved it Vic!

Retro...?
...maybe? But I like the cool rock 'n' roll feeling of this number. The tight production of the band is pretty impressive, and that guitar solo around 1:50 is such a nice way to set up a useful and melodic bridge. I will add that I think your voice is really well-suited to this style and very pleasant on the ears. This is the kind of R & R I understand. So nice to hear it done so well.

So late - sorry!
I'm in and out of MJ lately - much more out than in - and have no chance of catching up, but I didn't want to miss this.
Sounds great in the VH tradition.
Just a really satisfying listen.
