Description
SoloMe-o Challenge entry

I procrastinated until yesterday. I grabbed my ukulele first thing in the morning with a fresh mind, a cup of coffee, started figuring out a progression while helping the family get ready for school and work. I had no chords in mind for my madness just put several notes together to create a break for a lead. Later I recorded the ukulele against a drum track, then the electric guitar for some power chords and to figure out what the heck I was doing. Finally a bass track to add density and to set the groove.

My usual approach when creating music is to put together chords and melodies and usually I haven't any idea what the chords are and only find the key I'm in when I lay down the lead. This will be a challenge to figure out the theory to my reason. I've been checking some websites out lately to help along the way and maybe I'll learn something.

Power chords (Electric Guitar)

F# Em F# Em (intro)
A B Em F#
A B Em F#
A B D F#
A B Em F#
A B Em F#
A B D F#
F# Em F# Em (back to the intro)

4/4 120 BPM in the key of F#

Length: 32 measures

Audio that can be looped without pause or interruptions for extended play time.

Tracks:

Ukulele
Electric Guitar
Bass
Drums

Laundry? I pick up the ukulele on occasion when puttering around the house including when doing laundry, also laundry consists of using a washer/dryer where both spin and cycle kind of like loops and finally my music could use some cleaning up as well.

Oooh
I was keeping my fingers crossed you got the time to throw in something into this melting pot of a challenge John.. and you didn't disappoint: this has a great little swagger to it and the uke adds that little something special to the laundry chore...seems uke's are back in fashion! Downloaded...

Thanks Alan
hoping your's uploads soon. Maybe someone will choose this one to do a lead on. It would be awesome to hear your take. I wonder if the issue is only temporary or if the Doc can tell us how many days are left.

Sounds really good. What kind of ukulele are you using? Size and make?

Hey Andrew
It is a tenor Lanikai a little nicer than the one on the link included. 15" from nut to saddle with 20 frets.

I was given a gift card for GC several xmases ago and with a 40% discount my 11 year old persuaded me to take it home at no out of pocket expense. The kids like to play around with on occasion as well.

Love the approach:
a little bit of this, a little bit of that...and, hey! What do you get? A cool rhythm track with lots of energy and some great sounds that are played solidly and with a certain flair that easily suggests this could be the backup for a wonderful vocal song.

Thanks Paul
It is a little rough, since it's for a challenge if something builds form the progression then the tune can be cleaned up. I've been playing with another progression on the uke that offers a little more than this piece so maybe in the near future I'll have something new. That's the nice thing about using other instruments with different tunings, it gives a larger pallet to explore.

not to continue on and complete a song. Good thing it was a busy week, end of school and all. John I appreciate the listen, always means a lot.

Uke fan
I use my Ovation uke at every opportunity, even on my prog - rock tunes ("Night", for example) so I'm always interested to hear what other folks are doing with their ukes. This is fun. I going to loop it now.

You're right
ukuleles bring a whole new dimension, always get confused with that 4th string but a blast to mess around with. I'm impressed with your latest post and that uke adds a nice touch.

The fact that the uke and the power chords sound so natural together says it all, to me, John. I'm sure someone will rip this up. Nice one. Regards, Peter.

something so simple can add a lot. Like you said it ends up sounding quite natural. I hope some one latches on, thanks Peter for taking the time.

I'm a self taught guitar player who started playing at the age of 13. I mix my guitar progressions together, add lyrics and from that point I'll search for vocal melodies. The music I write is about life experiences and some about random subject mat... [see more]
