Description
It's been months and months...

But leave it to the Supreme Court to piss me off enough to write and record a new song.

And yeah. I'm really pissed.

PLAY IT LOUD!

Lyrics
‘Merica
©2014 Joseph Gurner

I went down to the church today
To watch the corporations kneel to pray
To their dollar bills and the laws they pay to write

See, they don’t worry ‘bout you and me
‘cause it’s not democracy
It’s guns and god and money that make the rules

Once I heard this used to be
A land of the brave and free
Of people who sought a better life for all

This is ‘Merica, land of the free
As long as you can pay you get your say
This is ‘Merica, land of the free
As long s you can pray you get your way

A preacher man said today
‘Merica is here to stay
But only for the chosen few like him

He’s standing at the pulpit spreading hate
Swearing to retaliate
Against the world that doesn’t pray like him

This is ‘Merica, land of the free
As long as you can pay, you get your say
This is ‘Merica, land of the free
As long s you can pray, you get your way

Yes!!!
You nailed it with this one, in my ears and eyes at least. Angry, yet thoughtful and well produced, sounds like a live recording. I think this may be one of your best ones thus far - again - in my ears. The guitar is heavy as asphalt in the sun, and the vocals lays on top to deliver your lyrics in an "angry", no, frustrated tone. Has punk, has grunge, but to me more of punk attitude to it. Or, just Rock "N" Roll. Love it Joe!!!

The Economy is bad so
Must mean it's about time for another war. It seems like they try every other week now. Lot of Generals have to justify their existence, not to mention all of those defense contractor's that have to make another hundred billion this quarter so the stock market will keep going up.

So do I hear a hint of disillusionment in this song? I was just thinking today that if we spent even half our time and effort solving the real problems of feeding and clothing people, getting them clean water, then we really could have that heaven that all the religions say we have to die to experience.

You are the exception my friend. You actually give a damn what's going on. Most folk just don't want to hear about it. Until of course it affects their lives and even then they believe the propaganda half the time.

So rave on, rave on! Keep spreading the news.

I agree with Terry
and maybe a little more current. I like your emotion, the driving guitar and a bit of that psychedelic vibe.

I would like to also add,

Not all preachers are that way but there are plenty who claim to be, hiding behind a bible pushing their agenda on others or for self gain. This is a huge turn off, how would a "preacher" expect to reach people this way.

I'm tired of seeing acquaintances post bible verses on FB then lash out at people in need or other cultures, then post some radical movement against government because they don't get their way, makes me sick, Just don't get it.

You can substitute 'Stralia, Joe, and the same arguments arise. I agree re the Neil Young vibe. It is hard not to be disillusioned and angry about how money and power pervert and distort every political (and religious) institution. Rage on. Thanks, Peter.

You got my vote on this one Joe
right on - as we used to say and don't get to say often enough these days. Great track - classic Crazy Horse territory - and you know your way around it - that's for sure. It's a damn nightmare what's going on around guns, god and immigration. And don't get me started on how these men can stick it to women. Don't they have wives and daughters? At the very least they had mothers. Yep - pissed.

"As long as you can pay, you get your say..." what a great lyric, Joe. I always love your songs, but I extra-loved the passionate way you sang this one. The bass also sounded especially great.

One of your best Joe
Great to hear you can get your anger out here Joe - our political situation is so bad that I can't bring myself to write anything political at the moment. Way too much material!
But I digress :)
This sounds terrific, and while everything sounds good, the driving drum track sounds like glue in the mix - excellent.
On second listen, definitely your best that I can remember. Lyrics work, guitars and bass work and your vocal is just right.
Hang in there!
Cheers from a crumbling Oz,
Neil

The vocal works well with the fuzzy guitar to suggest the power of your feelings. Hard driving backing. Strong statement.
