When The Earth Turns Away From The Sun

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
Just fiddling with my new PRS Angelus acoustic guitar (see previous song for details).

We recently went to Broome in north-west, Western Australia for a few days and the sunsets over the ocean were a highlight. This instrumental was written in response to them. The title comes from a local astronomer who is big on reminding everyone that the sun doesn't set, the earth turns away from the sun...

Unedited take on the PRS through the proprietary pickup, bit of EQ.

The photo was taken at Gantheaume Point, just out of Broome proper, at sunset.

Thanks,

Peter

Delicate work...
Beautiful solo work that is just so pleasant to listen to...unrushed, nice little "rushes" now and again to lead into something new. There is a gentle sense of calm about this work that makes it particularly engaging. And what a magnificent photo! Your land is full of such exquisite beauty. So nice that you bring it to life again and again in your sensitive songs.

Memorable
Thanks, Paul. I got some wonderful photos in Broome. The colours of the land and the sky are memorable. Glad you liked my musings. Take care, Peter.

Sun Appears to Set...
If I hadn't read the description, I'd still know this tune was about something pleasing. Liked it from the first musical phrase, and can tell your new instrument is happy to have you playing it.

Just in the courtship phase... :-)
Thanks, Greg. The new guitar is a beauty, that's for sure. I am really just starting to get to know it. Glad you liked this offering. Take care, Peter.

When The Earth Turns Away From The Sun
Beautiful! Wonderful composition masterfully played. That's as close to a natural acoustic sound as I've ever heard from internal electronics. I'd still be interested to hear what that beauty sounds like mic'd up.

Watch this space
Thanks, Andrew. Yes, the pickup is very good. I agree re the mic'd up comment. I am still refining the setup, but it is coming along. Take care, Peter.

When The Earth
Beautifully played my friend. Simple and emotive and I can feel the authenticity in this. From the heart.

Incremental
Thanks, Vic. I still haven't really captured on a recording how good the tone of this guitar is, yet. I'll get there, though. Thanks, Peter.

When The Earth Turns Away From The Sun
Beautiful tune. Clean playing. I have to admit I probably prefer the pure acoustic sound (which on this guitar is just gorgeous) but there's certainly a nice warmth to the plugged in sound, too. I think you should work on an instrumental for every photo you took in Broome and surrounds - that should sort out the Christmas CD!

Sunrise, sunset...
Thanks, Philip. Back from fishing. The weather in the east was actually not bad for a couple of the days. We caught some nice fish. I took some photos of the sunrise at Mallacoota, almost the furthest you could get from a sunset at Broome! I agree re trying to capture the pure acoustic tone of the PRS with mics. I am working on it. Talk soon, Peter.

Great tune...Man
Wish I could play an acoustic in that style, old fingers
don't work that well anymore....

Nice sounding guitar guess your about to have some
fun, I can hear that the action is a little high and you
really have to hold the strings hard so you don't get
any buzz's...It's not a comfortable fit just yet, won't be
long now though....

Nice one Peter....Peace...TG.

Time to adjust
Thanks, Tony. Been away fishing. Yes, I am still getting to know the guitar. The setup is very good but what you are probably hearing is that I am using heavier gauge strings on this guitar than I used to so I am taking a bit of time to adjust. I appreciate your support. Thanks, Peter.

Sun
You should tell your astronomer that the earth turns as much towards the sun as away.

Very very nice bit of picking. Great sounding instrument and well played.

Earth Sun II
Thanks, Vic. Yes, I agree re the towards/away comment. I have just been fishing in eastern Victoria, on the opposite side of the continent to Broome, and watching (and photographing) the sun rise. There might be a sequel... :-) Take care, Peter.
