Description
I've been working on this song on and off for 2 weeks, I absolutely love it, it's a deliberate attempt to write something similar to Santana's song with Steven Tyler "Just Feel Better" one of my fav songs ever, and Santana w/Michelle Branch "I'm Feeling You" another great collab. This is me on the couch w/ a Sterling condenser mic and a Washburn D100M/TWR I got for $80.00 off craigslist that I adore. Rough take w/some morning voice overdubs. Gonna take it in the studio Sunday. Thanks for listening Jd. ( I worked hard on this chord progression/voicings/bridge/modulation)
Verses II Gmaj7th/C7/II........
Pre-chorus Bm7/G7/Dm7/Em7.....
Hook/chorus IIDm7/G7II
bridge/modulation; Am7/Bm7/C/D/Em7/(Dsus/F#)/G/A7......
Outro
IIEm7/A7II......
IIAMaj7/Em7II

Lyrics
I hear footsteps to the left of me
quiet whispers to the right
I've been reading the funny papers
trying to think about nothing that matters
Hoping maybe that someday
It'll all come back to me

I'm in a daze
My mind's in such a strange place
I can't see through this haze

Faded memories, like worn out photographs
I see snapshots where movies used to be
So I'm just reading the funny papers.......

Can't see
In contrast to your title, this is clear, clean and personal. I like your vocal energy and the interplay with your guitar work. Nice progressions too - they well work for me in providing some vibrancy and freshness as we glide through the song. Cool!

I Can't See Through This Haze
I like the chord progression (smooth, but varied) and the sharp guitar picking. Warm vocal. Will be interested to hear some Santana lines running over it! Good material here, JD!

I Can't See Through This Haze
You mentioned the Eagles last song. I got more than a touch of Don Henley in your vocal on this. Kudos on the song, the chord progression and the sound you are getting out of the Washburn. Nice one, indeed. I wouldn't go overboard with a big arrangement in the studio. Sounding very good as is. Thanks, Peter.

is the biggest compliment anyone could pay me, my whole life he was the standard and the one who I most aspired to n=be like! Thank you so much peter!

Work in progress
Unsolicited suggestion and comments:
Angst and disengagement some more? No light, help or healing? Let me see the strange place your in... So I can experience it along with you...
Newspaper are passé: my phone, blog, etc. Dig? Writing "inside in" as it were might not be the best choice. Take the listener to the strange place!
There are four or five walls in linear story telling between the teller and the audience. Past just two? The fourth wall is where a narrator asks the listener a direct question and then listen for their response before continuing. Ah, you dig? Hope this helps ya out.

Daug has great ears.
But newspapers are just fine for the retro-folk vein you're mining here: the physical world is always at hand. Hard to imagine a flickering blog page putting anyone in a funk for very long!
Minor nit, though. He's right about the rest IMO.
This sounds great.

Great
vocal delivery. I like the tone on the guitar. Felt like the repetition of the line 'can't see through this haze' was a bit clunky, but other than that, everything about this was excellent and very professional-sounding. Impressive.

Thank you!
It's really cool how just laying my Sterling condenser mic on the coffee table and playing this $80.00 Washburn came out. This guitar is just one of special amazing gems, I like it way better than my $1500.00 Takamine. Thank so much for stopping by.

Cool song JD, I particularly like the pre-chorus structure...I always enjoy slick dynamic changes. Melody is excellent and the lyric is nicely constructed. Looking forward to hearing how this sounds coming out of the studio.

I Can't See Through This Haze
Know how you feel...Some of my best electric stuff started out at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and my Ovation (that I found for next to nothing in a pawn shop.)...This has the makings for something really good. It's interesting and complex in a way but still has a down to earth appeal.Look forward to hearing the next version.
