Lyrics
Cradle

Care for your sister and care for your brother
Care for your father and care for your mother
Care for a friend or a neighbour or other
Or the cradle will fall

When will the cradle fall?

Baby - safe in your bed late at night

Baby - even a night such as this

baby - me and your ma are right here

Baby - now go to sleep with a ...

Baby - beware of the bumps in the night

Baby - watch for the things that can bite

Baby - beware of the things that can bite

Baby - watch for the spooks and the creeps

Baby - they'll come around while you sleep

Baby - but not while your parents are here

(You'll see them crawling but things aren't the way they appear.)

When will the cradle fall?

Don't feel alone - nobody should have to suffer alone, in their own home
Falling, calling, mission incomplete, the first matter is that you care
There's nothing that's too hard to do - there's nothing to be misconstrued
Help for you, care for me, care for you, not discrete

Or the cradle will fall

What a strange tune! I mean that in a good way. Your guitar tone reminds me some of Captain Beefheart, in one of his many phases, yet the overall feel of the piece is kind of folk-rocky. Whatever. I really like it. Great lyrics! Are you trying to scare your kids by any chance?

Thommo
It was originally "Richard's Beret", then It mutated. It got weird when I added the SFX, and I had to come up with words that made sense. Then Sam added the "Knots" - style bits, and here we are. It's good though, isn't it? It sounds like a a band, which is fantacker!

Unique song in many respects. I like it a lot! You guys play real well together. Summer Camp next? The opening made me think of a Jethro Tull/CSN mash up :-) Of course, Yes made their presence felt, too. The Socking Pock Ruppets rule! Thanks, Peter.

We rule
And from now on, everyone wears their underpants on the outside, on pain of death. Thank you, Peter, and thanks, Dava. I was indeed trying to get kids to crap their pants. Because, why not?

Crappy old guitars
were used and abused here. I've upgraded to Gladys, the 7 - string Ibanez wonder since this recording and she sounds a lot nicer, so watch this space. Thanks for the kind remarks, Vic.

Must have been ......
fun to record (and edit!).
Complex, fun psychedelic-progressive-celtic-folk-rock done well - especially the psychedelic bit ;)
Cheers from Oz,

I'm sure you know the process
Back and forth go the files and the comments. David insisted we keep the thunder, baby, toy FX, so figuring out a maguffin to encompass them AND the Richard Thompson/Beefheart intro was quite a feat. I think it was worth all the effort. There's a beautiful spinoff featuring Sam's lyrics and vocals, which I may post separately. Thanks for listening, Neil.

Nearly forgot
about this it's been so long since I added vocals. Months?
David indeed did well with the mix. At times I can't tell my vocals from yours except moments when I'm slightly louder. Cool blend.
thx for notifying me.

June, I think.
David was moving, then we went to the UK for our summer vacation. I realised this was ready to go and needed some artwork, so set to. As for the vocals - if they sound out of tune, that's me. I think I should put up the Acapulco version of the last section, as it is so good.

Great job all around. The middle eight came and of course all the absurdity. Thanks for for sharing your gifts with us.
The pacing utilized here makes the cut stand out. That kinda intensity is rare. Nit? Needs a smashing ride out with a twist.

You know, you helped get all this going, Mr D. So I'm happy you enjoyed it. Re the ending: if we were ever fortunate enough to get the chance to perform this stuff live, I think it would have dynamite bits everywhere. Meanwhile, I'm very chuffed that it sounds so much like a proper band.

It's bonkers, isn't it?
But it was such fun trying to corral all the diverse elements into something that made some sort of sense. Happy you enjoyed it, Philip.

Prog is doing well. Check out Stafford Radio's weekly Prog Mill for proof, or listen to the excellent Pineapple Thief. We're cheaper, of course, but they're really brilliant ( to contrast with the cheapness.) always good to hear from you, Dick. I saw Mark over the summer and he has new stuff brewing. Yay!
