You've Brought a New Kind of Love to Me

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
This one was written in 1930 by Sammy Fain, Irving Kahal, and Carl LaFong, and was introduced by Maurice Chevaliar in the film "The Big Pond". This is kind of "free and loose", to put it nicely, so extra thanks for listening! Michael

Arrangement created and performed by Sir Alan McPike on the McBespoke organ.
Artwork: Bela Lugosi doing a stint on TV's "The Dating Game"

New kind of love
"Nightingaaaaaaaaale!" Love it! As always, devastating with with those bent notes Michael and effortlessly so, damn you. You need to send me some of that spray though. "all three of them.." and "something's burning in here." made me chuckle. The repartee with Mr McPike and his trusty organ (ahem) is great and the light heartedness does nothing to disguise the raw talent. Well done sir. Again. Damn you I say.

Those notes weren't bent...
....they was twisted! But all seriousness aside Stephen, thanks so very much. In actuality, this was one of a lot of "practice" recordings I make every week, and yes, I talk to myself quite a bit on these things. This one was almost bearable, so I thought I'd slap it on up--what the heck! Great hearing from you mate and very happy that you're happy. You take care now, Michael

You know
how to entertain sir. Multi talented and multi layered we’re so lucky you share your special gifts with us Michael.
And I saw that Lugosi episode on The Dating Game and I tell you he just sucked the life out of that show.

Thanks Charlie!
Ah, I'm just semi-faceted, but I know I could be doing more in creating some original songs and stuff--I think I'm too impatient to create the kind of wonderful music you and others here do so well. You are much too kind and I'm so very appreciative of that. You take care now! Michael

Thanks so very much Philip!
I was going to toss this (see my response to Saltaire) but I'm glad some paranormal force directed me to subject you all to it, so it all worked out nicely. You take care now! Michael

Thanks greatly Stan!
I enjoy speaking on my stuff because my logic is once people here how squeaky my speaking voice sounds, my singing voice sounds like Mario Lanza in comparison. I work in a very devious manner this way. All seriousness aside, I'm very grateful for your positive words--I get so many nice comments from some of the really stellar talents on this site; it's so very humbling. You take care now! Michael

Full Marx
One of my favourite bits of Marx lore - where they're all pretending to be Maurice Chevalier. And, "Pull the string!" How much pop culture awesomeness can one song produce? 10, according to a scientific survey I just made up. And you get the full ten here, Mr Klein, if only for the picture. I could go on, but won't. DL'ed, naturally.

Oh yes! I love the Brothers Marx and that scene stands out for me, not only because it was hysterical (I'm a huge fan of Chico's singing) but also because I didn't realize Chevaliar had made it famous. Hah! You got the "pull the string" thing--that just came to me in a free association sort of way after mentioning The Melachrino Strings (does anybody still remember them?). Incidentally, I have an authentic autographed photo of Bela hanging in my bedroom; he was great! Thanks so very much--you are great too! Michael

Bela
I read a very good bio of Mr L. He was a very handsome and highly - regarded thesp in his homeland. And if the Ed Wood movie is to be believed, still gave his all even in ludicrous movies, despite the ravages of time and drugs. Plus he was the best Dracula.

For Mr. McPike? I didn't know. By royal appointment then. This is a new song for me; don't recall ever hearing it before. Your timing, inflection etc. are spot on, and the humour gives a great live feel too. Top performance sir!

You were born...
...out of your time, Michael, but, lucky for us, you live in ours! Another spectacular vocal delivery of a very nice classic. You seem to be in particularly good voice here (except for the clearing of the throat!), the vibrato on longer notes "singing" with precision and nice expression. Fun. Fun. Fun. Oh, and the artwork description is hilarious. Love it all.

Actually...
...I was born October 4th through the 12th! Which remind me, many years ago, laying on my bed listening to big band music, my father stopped by the door listening with me. "You know Michael, had you been around during the days of Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and all the rest of 'em...you'd be what? Fifty-three or 54 years old by now!" He was very profound, my dad. Thanks again Paul, I greatly appreciated hearing from you! Michael

I love...
... coming back here and hearing a new tune from you. It was all said before me; simply magnificent and, as always, a pleasure to listen to your voice.

You're still on my list of people to work with (ASAP, if I may add). I just need to channel back my old-jazzy-self. I notice the quality of vocal recording has improved... a change in the mic? Setup? Whatever it is, you sound FINE! Props.

Great hearing from you--thanks so very, very much! Yes, I've bought a better mic and using better software, but I'm still sorting out things--I do what I can with the mixing! Any time you want to get together, just name an old tune and I'll be there! You take care now, Michael

Great song, done so well, Michael. It sounds so effortless (but I'm guessing that not true...). Glad you didn't try an "outrageous" French accent :-) Très bon travail, mon ami. Merci, Pierre.

Much obliged Peter...
...thank you! I kind of grew up knowing what I new of Maurice Chevaliar from his later films, but it was only when I scoped out his early movie musicals did I learn to appreciate what he was all about (he was great!) There was a picture he did in the early 1930s called "Love Me Tonight" that I recommend to anybody that will listen; it's just a beautiful film. Great hearing from you--and take good care now! Michael

New Kind
I've said it before Michael, you bring a freshness to this genre that is appealing. Your intonation and phrasing are really spot on and you bring the "happy" to music. It's good to hear, and nobody does it better.

Thanks Chris...
Really though, I listen back to my vocal tracks and there's more than a few times I want to go "ugh!", but I know what to be more careful about next time around--the problem is, it's a non-ending cycle. I'm very flattered and truly appreciate your kind remarks! Take care now, Michael

A GREAT gift to be able to put people in the past musically. I say that a lot with your wonderful music! Love the horn ending as well ! Not to many will I hear two pieces of music but you music is so PRO and so well done that is easy to do!
