Lyrics
the room is just an empty space
I guess we just wore it out
something in the air that never had a chance, nothing has changed
things we had you know I never wanted, nothing has changed
coursing with blood and silly tattoos
in a time of a thousand names
something is happening and I don't know what, nothing has changed
shield my eyes towards the vacant view, nothing has changed
no longer can tell good from bad
don't really feel the weather or your pleasures
a warm breeze that melted stone and steel
where the paint is peeling on the backdoor stairs
no longer can tell good from bad
somewhere a ocean calms the mind
stumbles like a blind man questions everything
thoughts are empty and filled full of air, nothing has changed
rumors and lies and stories made up, nothing has changed
early in the morning by the break of day
you’ll forget everything that they said

a little touch of early Floyd (Sid B. days). Guitars classy and classic sounding. nailed it.

true my sid alter ego rises from the haze once in a while. originally it was going to sound totally different, but i decided to take the path to the left.

Oh, classy...
...opening. I love those sliding chords that resolve. Has a mid-Eastern bit of bent sounds. The fuzzy guitar is perfect, too, for the general style of this "old school psychedelia" as you have termed it. There's an easy-singing quality to the tune that reminds me more of a recitative style than a western "song." I like the measured and restrained pace of this track, too. Very comfortable to listen to...the dream sequence around 2:45 and following is particularly nice, as is the percussion entry to get back into the song. This is really well-considered, Vic. Great track in so many ways. I enjoyed the listen.

i was actually about to finish up a couple other tracks. but when this came to mind it pretty well jumped ahead of the rest since the structure was a nice change of pace.

Dark side, light side
Complex mood, hints of dark side of Vic here and there, as the title suggests, but manages to walk the thin line between light and dark. Very subtle and exquisite quality in this tune. Extraordinary, as always coming from you. Cheers.

walking in the shadows. after i worked out the lyrics, after the music was complete, i was wondering what the heck does it mean. there's ups and downs but usually it balances out.... so came the title. thanks for the listen.

Great stuff Vic. That snarly SG sounds terrific! It all seems to fit together very well and the break in the middle is tied back in again in great style. Excellent vocal treatment too! Really enjoyed this.

this sg is quite versatile. it's been my go to guitar fro the past 6 months. i thought a break down would really break it up nicely and a chance to add a bit of esoteric headiness.

really, a strong calling from the old haze; what a trip for me to feel that so definitively this morning.

Cheers!

Hey Vic - your tunes always have that psychedelic sound, but this one has an added classic rock feel to it - solid playing and arrangement, and this one was over before I was ready for it to be so, so I hit replay! thanks man - enjoyed this!

Very atmospheric thing happening here, love the verb. You really have a wealth of tricks up your sleeve and it always makes for an interesting listen. I can't help but wonder what this would sound like with a killer live drummer...really good, Vic.

live drummer would always be nice. it would make it all that much easier too. i originally had laid down a more involving midi drum track, but i thought it competed to much with what was going on. so i simplified it, but i'm never really sure with drums on a lot of tracks i do.

i like the looseness of the groove and the jangly guitars, both a perfect for for this genre. i feel your voice has an added expressiveness coming through in this piece, which adds to the character. and your lyrics are imaginative as always. silly tatoos... haha! thanks for the download.

tatoos, i'm not even sure how that came to mind
it does have a certain looseness. all the guitar tracks were a first take, so i think it came through with a bit of livliness, thanks for giving this a listen

Wow... nothing has changed? Well, true. But this tune is another level, another paradigm of the Holman music mind. Diggin' it indeed. As an old Brit band sang, "How do you do what you do....?"

Old school, maybe, but oh so classy with it. I really like the thick, vintage drive of the drums and the guitar tones you put together. Too well recorded to be late 60's psychedelia :-) Peace man. Peter

Like the way this
opens up and like the Bolero sound. Like the way you orchestrate the guitars. Sounds pro to me, I like how you sing and as I've said before it reminds me of the kinks. But your sounds are mixed with at COOL singing is stupendous. Again, you orchestrate so original in such a good way with those electric guitars. I even hear a bit of Birds too. Enjoy that echoey sounds. . . COOL!!!!!!!!
