Description
More politics - and more to come!
We did this on the fly with Peter and Chris - unfortunately Chris' bass track was less than well recorded, so he is languishing on the cutting room floor - sorry Chris!
Recorded live by PBGB in the Shed and then whipped into shape in my home studio. It's rough, but has some of the edges tidied. Peter Reid on drums and me on everything else. Hopefully there's going to be a much better version coming soon.
Content? We have the most right wing government we've ever had in Oz at the moment - think somewhere to the right of Dubya!! They lied their way into power and then, when they were elected broke nearly every pre-election promise they made. Very depressing!

Lyrics
Your Web Of Lies
©2014 Neil Porter

You've got your evil eyes
You tear my world apart
I've had my nights of sighs
I don't know where to start

Don't want your evil eyes
Don't want your cold black heart
Don't want your web of lies
Don't want your cold black heart

You're on the other side
No need to get in line
You take me for a ride
Not gonna work this time

Don't want your evil eyes
Don't want your cold black heart
Don't want your web of lies
Don't want your cold black heart

Give to the rich, take from the poor
Don’t want you hangin’ round
One day I’ll see them put you
Down in the cold cold ground

Don't want your evil eyes
Don't want your cold black heart
Don't want your web of lies
Don't want your cold black heart

You wouldn't be here now
Without your web of lies
You wouldn't be here now
Without your web of lies

Another politically charged gem from PBGB - I feel like I think you feel. :) Really big sound from you guys, love the organ! Great vocal Neil! Lyrics are stone cold, man! Good tune guys!!

You think your government sucks?!
Well, I'm afraid I don't follow the news very well, so the politics are a bit vague to me, but it's the song and what it told that packs a punch. Excellent as always, great job from you and the guys.

Web of lies
Powerful song well recorded. Love what you've done with the organ, the guitar sound is beautiful, the vocal emotive. The title says it all - but the Libs seem to think it's OK. Depressing.

Very cool Neil Love the chord changes/composition especially the chorus ... dreamy guitar sound and the organ kicks. Great lyrics. Not big on that slap back sound on the drums. Excellent tune and recording.

Ominous song, Neil, but the present turbulent times call for it.
I'm afraid those damn politicians will screw up once again, they don't hear our cries
Great song!

solid song
truth to power. We're in deep trouble unless we all get together. It's the universal corruption of money and power. Great bass.

Okay, I'm back...
Right from the start, it's an awesome mix, Neil...

I'm listening on my little monitors and the bass throb is palpable and right in the pocket...I love the atmospheric electric guitar chords around the sides... I see that Vic already beat me to the Andy Summers reference, but that's what it sounds like...

Wish Fran was still around. I'd pester him to work it up as an acoustic slide number...

This tune, in fact, can go anywhere it wants to.

The B3 sound is terrific, and a really nice surprise in the arrangement. Very mid to late Sixties vibe for as long as it lasts...

Anyway, great song, great recording, great performance...

Oh yeah....
Strong vocal, too...
jiguma said 940 days ago (September 28th, 2014)
Thanks Ed!
You can expect some more competent B3 playing from PBGB soon. We just found a new player who specialises in B3 (has a Hammond B3 portable twin keyboard) and has just returned to playing after a 30 year hiatus. He's very good, and a nice guy to boot. So that might be interesting. Stay tuned!

Unusual chord change that works well with the mood of the song. Not surprisingly, I could apply the lyrics to the politicians here too. A great tune. Cheers.

Bit late, Neil. Sorry. Been up north of Cairns. They probably love Tony up there. But when their No. 1 industry is tourism, and climate change is impacting heavily on the reef, you reckon they would have FMS (far more sense) in FNQ... Moody, understated song. Love the keys. It's hard not to be dispirited and angry. Take care, Peter.

You're going to like the next one even better I suspect. Not sure the Rabbot will though ;)
Ah FNQ! Unfortrunately we can't go there - Jan's had dengue twice (one of them dengue hemhorragic), and the risk of a more serious third bout makes us non-tropical travellers :(
Oh well, lots of other bits of the world to look at.
Cheers,
Neil
