You Lied and You Lied (and You Lied About That)

Description
The third song in my "lying trilogy" - I hope to be onto another topic soon ;)

This was originally a protest song, but I've tried to make the words obtuse enough for it to be relevant in a number of circumstances. A kind of "song for all seasons".

I really enjoy doing this style of music - a little RnB (old school) and a little "adult contemporary" (why does that sound like such a negative genre?).

Music is all me with drums courtesy of Gavin the Drummer in Logic. Gavin is definitely getting better.

My current favourite of mine.

Lyrics
You Lied About That
©2014 Neil Porter

Well you can say what you want
And I don’t have a problem with that
You can call a spade a spade
There’s no worry ‘bout that
You’ve got to do what you say you’ll do
You know that its true
You’ve got to do it day by day
Whatever you do

But when you change what you say
The very next day
There’s sure to be a problem with that
And when you do what you do
It won’t go away
There’s gonna be a problem with that

You lied and you lied and you lied
Then you lied about that
You’re there under false pretences
People care about that
You might think that I'm naive
And I’m sure that you do
I just know what I believe
And I know that’s not you

And when you change what you say
The very next day
There’s sure to be a problem with that
And when you do what you do
It won’t go away
There’s gonna be a problem with that

You lied and you lied and you lied
-
You lied and you lied and you lied
-
You lied and you lied and you lied
-
You lied and you lied and you lied

Classy Neil
I love the feel of the song. Nice clear production and the Tele is sounding good (as is your voice!)

A bit of an abrupt fade out though?

Cheers

Dick

You Lied and You Lied
Really like the bass led groove and the choppy guitars and how they drive the song, Neil. Your smoky vocals work a treat, too. The lead guitar break/ effects are a highlight. I listened several times and it sounded better each time round. Fine, fine post. Thanks, Peter.

Cool and nice music Neil.
It's sad and bad that there aint much we can trust from the world. And it's getting worse.

Hope though that your life is well!

You Lied
Love this style of music ... R&B is got to be my fav groove and you do a fine job here. Enjoyed the echo EFX on the lead. Organ washes over the whole soundscape filling my ears with possibly my most fav instrument.
Drums are sounding good. Nice spaces ... air ... I guess the your grande PUBA who runs your country has had an influence on your writing.
Very inspired Neil.

Believe Me

Everything I say is a lie - even that!

I wonder if there should be an adult senior category?

Nicely played, nicely sung and nicely produced.

I like the soft thump of the bass, the crisp cut of the guitar and the velvet of the organ. Warm vocal. Tasty lead breaks. Have you offered it to Canberra to play in Parliament House?

Old School Reunion
Very nice, Neil. This is a very tasty R&B treatment with some authentic-era lead guitar work. Really splendid feel to this recording. ;)

The new Jiguma minimalism continues...
Awesome example of "less is more", Neil...

You are also doing a great job of getting a simple, strong, emphatic vocal, and letting the vocal lead the song...

I love the lead guitar, both the opening delayed bit and the more distorted second half... The B3 sounds are also just enough...

Great arrangement, I guess, is the take-away, and then recording a great arrangement...

Thanks for your words and listen. With the current lull in PBGB activities, I'm finding time to really put some time in to writing and recording, and enjoying it a lot. Logic Pro X and Ozone 5 (6 coming out soon!) are amazing bits of software, but full of tricks that take time to discover (asnd understand). I'm just finding some time finally.
As far as the arrangement goes, I'm trying to keep my new songs down around the 3:00 - 3:30 minutes. That forces a more thoughtful arrangement, as well as more direct/simple lyrics.
Cheers,
N

Thanks Michael
The first half of the guitar solo just uses a stereo delay to get the L-R bouncing. I haven't used it before, and quite like it (so you'll probably hear it again). We briefly had a guitarist who used LOTS of reverb and delay, and I tried to model the guitar here on his style - you can have too much of it though! ;)
