Description
I haven't done anything new for almost a year now through one thing and another, so I went through my songs to see which of my favourites I could improve on ( OK, all of them, I know LOL) and this one cropped up. I've re-mixed, taken away synths added drum fills and smartend it up somewhat, for a cleaner more 'driving' pace.
I originally wrote this 3 yrs ago at the time of the Arab Spring, when we thought at last people were moving into the modern age, but we all know what happened and is still happening in the Middle East. Nothing will ever be solved with evil thugs hijacking religion and doing barbaric acts as they are doing at this time. Anyway enough of that...I just hope you like this cleaner version, regards M.

Lyrics
reakin’ Barriers,

1.Somethin’s really happenin’, feel it in the air.
People breakin’ shackles, wantin’ what is fair.

Chorus.
Gotta start breakin’ barriers,
Sail along on brand new seas,
Evolution not revolution.
Will carry us along on the breeze.

2.We gotta keep goin’ forward, reachin’ for that goal,
The ‘Goal’ just has to be somethin’, that will satisfy the soul.

3.
Everybody wants freedom, everybody needs peace,
Only through people talkin’, will the warring ever cease.

Chorus.
Instrumental
Chorus.
4.
We gotta stop all the preachin’, tellin’ folk how to live,
We gotta’ stop all the takin’ and practice how to give,
5.
Yes we gotta keep goin’ forward, reachin’ for the goal,
And that goal has gotta’ to be somethin’, to satisfy the soul.

Chorus.
instrumental
Chorus
6
Yes we gotta keep goin’ forward, reachin’ for the goal,
And that goal has to be somethin’, to satisfy the soul.
Chorus.

Maurice Vizard .Sept. 2011.

breaking barriers
Good to see you back, Maurice :-)
I'm not optimistic about the Middle East. Mankind seems to trade one barrier for another.. I'm afraid things will never change.
Cool song with a fine message
I like the pace of the piece
Good one!

This song
has some real kick to it Maurice. We need that passion in a quest for peace in this world.

Hope this is the start of some great new work from you my friend.

Cheers,

Hi Charlie,
It does have a kick in the beat and probably helped by my change of drum pattern and fills....definitely a passionate subject, cheers M

Good to see you again!
This has a real edge to it Maurice. Vocals are a mixture of both anger yet world weary.

Important lyrics. If only folks would listen.

Cheers

Breaking Barriers
Great to hear this fine song again, Maurice. Nice additions. Great style in the vocal and the arrangement. Deep down, I don't think humankind has changed much since cave people first walked on the earth. There will always be those who want to exploit and have power over others. Religion is just a convenient cloak because it is so nebulous. Thanks for the post. Take care, Peter.

Hi Peter,
I'm glad you like my improvements to this song as I thought it was somewhat cluttered and I think this open-ness has given it more clarity. Nothing will change as long as people still retain weird conceptions from the darkest recesses of their minds and try to make them facts in order, as you say, to exploit and gain power, regards M

Always good to see you. I think it's cool that you and I collaborated on crankenhurst challenge. When I saw you there I was hoping you would get reenergized. Dig the music on this one and this is classic moviz. Love ya brother. Gotta keep goin' forward!

Thanks
for giving it an ear Andy; glad you like it. Now you can blame Jack for persuading me to do Crankenhurst ha ha, and I was surprised at how clear my voice sounded, since I'd only been able to croak for months; I truly thought my singing days had gone. Now all I need is some inspiration. Really, pleased to see you my friend, best regards M

You got the mojo, Mo...
So good to hear a new (old!) one from you, Maurice. You've still got it, man: powerful and honest lyrics; driving instrumental backup; and that raspy vocal to deliver the message with authority and certainty. You have to write and write and write because you create such special and unique music. Loved this.

Wow Maurice
This is amazingly "up"! I'm hearing one of Jan's fav bands here - the Pet Shop Boys, but with more attitude. Also a touch of Tom Jones in the song.
Great post!

Great job!
Solid and engaging from the start. This may be the cleaner version but it hasn't lost any of the energy. I've read some of the comparisons in the comments, let me add 'Dire Straits' for good measure.

This may the most complete track I've heard from you, everything from the songwriting, the lyrics and performance are focused, inspired and authentic. If I didn't think that you had done this by yourself, I'd ask how many people were involved in this track! Thanks for the post!

Hey Maurice - so nice to see you on the song pages again! I really like this tune - kinda has an old western feel to it. And there are more than a few idiots out there in the world who could benefit from your message. Enjoyed - welcome back!

Llarion said 1074 days ago (October 15th, 2014)
Great sentiment
The beat drives the feel very effectively, I like the relatively sparse approach. You've got a little phasing in the vocal track, might have been during acquisition, can you invert the phase on that track?
Check out my latest song called Door to Babylon
Moviz said 1074 days ago (October 16th, 2014)
Hi Phil,
I think you mean on the second chorus with the phasing, but I'm not really technical enough to be able to solve it. Not sure what 'invert the phase means ? I got to the stage where i couldn't distinguish between various balances I'd played and re-played it that much LOL Thanks a lot though for calling in on this, always appreciated, regards M

in song. Maurice, so much heart in this song. You singing is emphatic and delivered with conviction. The music entices and draws one in. Love the vibe...

Maurice,
"And that goal has to be somethin’, that will satisfy the soul."

Got that right! Sung well with passion. This sounds like a theme song from an 80s movie about espionage and crossing borders.

you liked this Bill; it did seem to work out well with the way things were going at the time of writing....and yes you might be mistaken in this day and age in thinking everything is geared to the young, but they have to learn certain things off the older people, or else they'll just be going round in circles won't they LOL, cheers M
