Lyrics
THE LIFE WE LEAD

For Roy

some people are followers
some people are borrowers
never have an original thought
some people spend the bulk of their days
protecting their means, defending their ways
but you and I, we don't give that a second thought
pushing boundaries as we please
flights of fancy carefree as a breeze
problem solving, ever resolving
never to stop evolving
that’s the life we lead

life's too short for a lengthy list
got no time for an apocalypse
not spending any time dreading predictions of doom
hit to miss
boom to bust
womb to tomb
disrupt to dust
there's never been anything quite like us
since the world went boom
don’t be pigeonholed by the statue quo
step outside your comfort zone
be courageous and do something outrageous
always thinking, always making
living in the moment that's the thing
look out! - creativity can be contagious

Art work alert...
yes, the song art leads right into the song that you deliver up. Wow Warren, what are you on? Cause it's good stuff, apparently. Though short, very satisfying.

A Chip Off The Old...
... Blockhead? Nice, strange, unique, wise. A delightful commentary, Warren. It does remind me a bit of a free-ranging Ian Dury tune.

Creativity is a bird... singing in the wilderness of our imagination. ;)

40 years!
brilliant delivery. a performance in itself but the music adds a lot. memorable, to say the least and right on - never stop moving, even the song itself doesn't feel like it ends even after it's over!

Outrageous behavior
Perhaps a more contemporary metaphor would have been to "Step outside your hazmat suit - creativity can be contagious." Thanks for the visit.

Collaboration
Is this the mission statement of your friendship? Sounds pretty good.

The guitar is oddly reminiscent of The Residents.

Mission Statement for friendship? I never thought of it that way .. but why not?

do something outrageous
its all to short to worry over nothing some many thing going on in this song but its the lyrics that leads me through it , like the poetry and how its written
its in out and done
sum s up the whole idea and stamps it into the brain great stuff

Poetry
The soundtrack congealed early on, but the lyrics took forever to write. And they went through numerous changes. I think it started out as a love song, then maybe a personal manifesto, before the idea of writing about a friendship took hold. The hard part was writing lines to fit the cadence that still made thematic sense.

Uniquely yours Warren!
sorry its taken so long to get to this Warren. I hear Dury too, but also Zappa. You have a totally individual style that works - always thought-provoking lyrically and musically. A little insight of the US down here in Oz.
Cheers from here,
Neil

Whenever
The global networks are overloaded. Life is overloaded. I appreciate your visit whether it's right after a song gets posted or later on. And thanks for the double vote on the fan list (although I expect that wasn't intentional). While the goal is to be original, and even though past influences naturally creep in to one's work, the way to get there is simply let the music go where it wants to go. Of course, that's usually easier said than done.
