A Minor Melancholy

Description
Just noodling with the PRS and this came about.

Am, Fmaj7, G, Am x2
Dm7, G, C, Am; Dm7, G, Am x2
Repeat and stir...

Unedited take (except for some EQ tweaking and squeak reduction); AKG small diaphragm condenser mics in X/Y configuration about 30 cm from the 14 fret. I added the "silky strings" to "liven" it up a bit :-)

I took the photo in Tasmania earlier in the year.

See what you think.

Kind regards,

Peter.

One of my..
One of my favorite things to listen to (and subsequently play when I'm by myself) is stuff just like this. It suits just about any mood even though it's inherently sad sounding. Very beautiful. I listened t some of your other creations and you have an excellent singer/songwriter/folk voice. Keep up the good work!

Noodling
Thanks, ewhh. I appreciate you dropping by and also having a listen to some other songs. Yes, noodling around on a guitar is very relaxing (and a great time waster... :-)) Take care, Peter.

Very nicely done.
This is a beautifully played little tune that has a real moody feel. Sophisticated stuff made to sound easy, but we know it isn't, you're just making it sound easy with your huge skill-set.

Embellishments
Thanks, FA. Simple melody and simple chords. The trick is in the embellishments :-) Thanks for the kind words. Take care, Peter.

just noodling?
i have to think you have more than five fingers on one hand. there are places where it comes off as two players, so nicely done Peter.

Animate inanimate...
Thanks, Vic. Ah, those hammer ons and pull offs always make things sound a bit flashier than they really are. :-) I appreciate you stopping by and am glad you enjoyed it. Just re-cycling bits and pieces really, but this guitar stares at you and demands to be played. It is like having a pet :-) Take care, Peter.

Beautiful tone to that guitar! Gentle tune, relaxed mood. I like the synth/strings supporting it too. Time used profitably, I say.

Variations on a theme
Thanks, Philip. Just exploring variations on some themes I have visited this year. I have a song that you, and perhaps, Franc, might be interested in working on. I will send a demo through soon, Peter. P.S. We booked our flights.

minor
I like the tech notes. A great piece, some thing I always aspire to. The strings(?) are placed in a thoughtful spot. I thought it was a recorder at first but I just finished listening to Vic Dessel's piece!

Noodle notes
One of the joys of MacJams is getting access to these kinds of postings. There should be a category called "Noodle." You may simply be stringing together a set of themes and variations you've been playing over a stretch of time. But beyond that what I hear captured is a musician fully in tune with his instrument .. playing at a comfort level that is sweet to eavesdrop on. That's the other merit of this place .. that despite the decline in the infrastructure .. it still gives us an astonishing immediacy. You are half way around the world from me .. and yet MacJams and the Internet makes it feel like I am sitting in the same room .. watching you reach for your guitar and launch this noodle. I love that.

No.3 with noodles
Thanks, Warren. Yes, MJ is still a great place, despite the current lull in enthusiasm by some (most...). I do aim to produce recordings that are "in the room" so I am glad that you are liking the style. Noodle would be a good category :-) Take care, Peter.

Pleasantly sorrowful...
Kind of a lament, but not so sad as to be off-putting. Your skill with your instrument allows you the freedom to "noodle" and make a lot of sense of things simultaneously. I especially like the stopped chords and the hammer-on effects at some of the cadences. Beautifully performed, Peter, and such a pleasant experience to hear. (The photo: I wouldn't want to meet up with that fellow!!!).

A while...
Thanks, Tobin. Recording such a rich, resonant guitar has taken me a while to get something that I am happy with. This is starting to get there. Glad you liked the piece. Kind regards, Peter.

A Minor Melancholy
This does have a minor feel to it but the bridge\chorus part takes my ear in a different direction...almost like an ascending feeling of hope.
Such a lovely piece Peter..thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Bob. I guess I was exploring linking "phrases" between the chords and this simple set opens itself to a lot of variation. Glad you enjoyed it. Take care, Peter.

Very well
Played! The acoustic balance is perfect in my book. The synth in the background accompanies the guitar well. This in nice as is but would also sound great with vocals. Awesome tune!
