If I Only Had A Brain

This is one of the songs I used to perform at a regular gig at a local convalescent home. Most of you will recognize it as one of the popular songs (composed by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg) from the movie "The Wizard Of Oz" sung by Ray Bolger. It's a favorite of mine and I wanted to share it with the MJ folks...

Wonderful song...
And a heartfelt rendition. I remember you telling me that you sang this at the convalescent home. Fun song that combines clever words and a beautiful melody. I want the chords for this!

One of the most...
memorable songs from "The Wizard Of OZ." And for many the Scarecrow was the favorite of Dorothy's three companions. Thank, KC!

A more wistul, reflective approach
I think Jack that I've mentioned at least several hundred times here during my time at MacJams that I revere the music of Harold Arlen, so when I stopped by to listen, I think, foremost, the immediate impression I got was "Yes! This is how he REALLY would have liked it sung in the film." The approach you took here is right in line with the reflective nature of the song. Your vocal is fine; I personally would have liked a little more "character" maybe, but on it's own, it works well. I really enjoyed the arrangement around this--uncomplicated, not overblown and just right for the song. You did a great job here Jack--thanks so much for doing this! Signed #1 Harold Arlen Fan this Side of the Monongahela River!

... is a mini-education on Arlen. Of the standards, the master Yoda you are. Many thanks from this learner.
