Although the recording is a little murky, you can hear the thought that has gone into the development of the piece. Perhaps the guitar could have a cleaner tone to stand out more from the synth? but I enjoyed hearing what you're doing here - I'd like to have been there!

Yep - not the cleanest sounding room to be honest
basically a hard box with no sound treatment - and we did dig into the murk a bit on this one - granted. Thanks for the listen and comment.

It's nice to know there are still places where music that challenges the listener can be heard performed live. Digging it!

Thanks Andrew
actually - quite a bit of what we do challenges me - which makes it that much more fun. Can anyone tell me the time signature of this piece? Not that I need to know because my parts are drone and sample based - but I'm still interested.

Spacey and grungy at the same time :-) It does have a hypnotic, fluid vibe to it, though. I think it is quite accessible. Thanks, Peter.

This is cool - it reminds me of the days of getting together with friends, with nothing but our instruments and plenty of carbonated alcoholic beverages - and just jamming up a storm! Ahh those were the days! Do I need to say this sounded like a blast? Very cool stuff, Bud - enjoyed!

I only wish we got otgether more often
I'd say we've had a bout two rehearsals at best per show - so there's a bit of exploration on stage as you might imagine.

woah
some of these sounds are majestic. love how the cymbals have been used in this, and the meandering quality of the guitar. i honestly thought this could have used an amped up harmonica (in the way that Talk Talk used one in "Spirit of Eden").

Brian's a crack drummer
his day job is in a band called The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Quite a unique player when given odd time signatures and textures to work with. Good call on the Talk Talk reference - I love that album.

i love the yeah yeah yeahs. you're working with some seriously impressive musicians. and yeah, spirit of eden is one of my all time favorites. i'll go months without listening to it, then rediscover its totality a couple times each year.

all of us with wings
Starts off with the slap bass note from hell, leading into an electronic whiplash. Shades of Glenn Branca with Jim Hendrix on guitar channeling The Byrds and playing star spangled banner backwards then gently flow into a grunge version of Sunrise, Come every morning..and then we all float off into the ether
Well. that's my take on it.
Cool track.
cheers

That first note is Chris's guitar
with the E tuned way down. The whiplash was a filter mistake on my synth that surprised the hell out of me - but I liked so I stayed with the setting for a bit. Great analogy with Alice Cooper - never thought of that - the Gleen Branca makes sense given our backgrounds - but I Alice does too. Glad you dropped by.

Alice
I didn't know Mr Cooper had done a version of Sunrise and there's only a grainy version on youtube..and listening to it I can see a similarity now. I think I meant just the feel of the actual song. That E must have been REALLY tuned down to get that note..and the whiplash synth noise was one of those lucky accidents and worth keeping in. Cheers

Mother of Gods this is good. So nice to hear somebody similar to me that does the total unexpected.
Wow my friend, I do a lot of the same things in my songs causing riffs all over my back of goosebumps as I listen, huge slow builds of fat sounds blending together doing the total unexpected. When that beat kicks in and no vocals kick in, wow I know you guys are purposely doing the total unexpected unlike 99% of other bands/musicians out there. So many other stuff I hear is boring to me because I've heard it 1000 times before in other past forms but this doesn't bore me. Reminds me of definitely Led Zeppelin's "Misty Mountain Hop" which is one of my favorite rock songs of all time in the second half. Is this an improvisation my friend or thought out/discussed beforehand between the group? If you ever come to Washington State or California let me sit in with you guys and improvise on keyboards :)

Your enthusiasm is really appreciated
we do our best to entertain and maybe surprise a little. This tune was written and recorded by Chris. Everything we play is written by Chris or composed out of group improvisation that gets recorded. Check out the players other work - I'm in great company here - and very grateful at that.

Your request for the time signature of this song above, think I figured it out and it has 2 of them!
I would say in the beginning with just the guitar before the beat kicks in, it's almost like cycling back and forth between a 3/4 and a 4/4. What do you think am I accurate?

When the beat kicks in it's almost a 1-2-3-4-5-6 waltz time signature so a shot in the dark, maybe it is 6/8? Each drum beat sounds like a beat in a 6/8 waltz time signature. If not then I'm just tired and it's just a regular 3/4 or 4/4 after the beat? I usually just hear the chords/time signatures subconsciously and play along/counterpoint without even thinking about them cuz I've been doing it so long. Like 30 years on piano or something isn't that sad?

If I didn't crack the case and you really need to know the signature I can investigate and listen again tomorrow after I've had some sleep. Have a great night! -Chris

playing a bit of catch up. you guys sure have a talent on how to play off of each other. it's cool that the band has the opportunity to perform like this without having to do cover tunes.

Enveloped in a purple fog...
...sorry I'm late commenting, but I got around to it. Despite the recording quality (which, yanno, now that I listen again, maybe was an asset in creating the particular mood this put me in), I loved the under and over current this sends out; the instruments here really "speak" (and some singing too of course!) with attitude and flair, like they are on a dangerous mission of sorts. Very cinematic (I'm a movie buff so almost everything is with me, but this is definitely is Bud) and there's plenty of here for the mind and the soul to enjoy. That last little beat or two at the end...you guys know what you are doing for sure. Thanks again and I be keeping this one! Michael
