Description
This song is about teenagers/adults who have run away, making poor choices and finding themselves in situations they think they can’t overcome.

A special thanks to Andrew Lack for creating and performing a bass track for this ballad. I first sent him an acoustic version to work with, a lot has been added since and evolved into this.

Thanks for taking the time to listen.

John Luper on guitars, vocals and mix
Andrew Lack on bass

Lyrics
This loneliness this emptiness no one cries it’s just me
Feel the need I cannot stray find a place to stay

I don’t know what to do or where to go
Looks as though the feelings gone and I’m not welcome anymore
The dope has filled their heads the need for me is dead
Where do I go, who to call, who would care

This loneliness this emptiness no one cries it’s just me
Feel the need I cannot stray finding a place to stay

Where can I find a spot that I call home
Somewhere that’s secure and I’m not alone
Love ones who loved me the love that I refused
Where do I go, who to call, who would care

This loneliness this emptiness no one cries it’s just me
Feel the need I cannot stray finding a place to stay

Tears have filled a life that overflowed
Should have been enjoyed and not from things I’ve done
Seeking everywhere a place that isn’t there
Where do I go, who to call, who would care

This loneliness this emptiness no one cries it’s just me
Feel the need I cannot stray finding a place to stay
Find me a place to stay...

I'm surprised
I was wanting someone else to do the vocals because I have a hard time getting past my own but I'm glad it pulled you in somehow... that was what I wanted. Thanks for the listen and comment.

Powerful lyrics. Plaintive vocal. I like the jangly guitars. Andrew's bass is supportive and lyrical. Love the tone and drive of the guitar solo. Excellent work!

Thanks for dropping by, I'm glad you liked the mix over all, the song really needed to be transferred to the macjams drive and it was nice to have Andrew help me do that.

Good to see you hear. I'm glad you liked this... the lyrics came first and then the melody, sometime seems to come together better that way. Andrew came through and really worked hard on a nice bass track.

Good job
The guitar sounds almost backward, and is a fine hook. The vocals, bass and lead are also excellent.

Quality song, John. Your vocals work great with the song. Vulnerable and emotive, and they sit in the mix so well. Some really fine guitar work and Andrew's bass supports, and deftly embellishes, the arrangement. Great mix all round. Thanks, you guys. Regards, Peter.

Thanks for the kind words. I wasn't too sure about the vocals, always a challenge for me to get past them. Andrew performed a pro job on the bass. He really made sure the results were held to a high standard that made the final mix stand out.

Thanks for creating an awesome bass line that all I pretty much had to do was drop it in a track. It gave me some new ideas to build upon and couldn't I be happier with the results.

John, your melodic sensibilities shine through here. You have a knack for writing memorable melodies - that's hard to do on a consistent basis. Lyrics, are hard hitting, but sincere and thoughtful. Your vocals get better and better and you're confidently "singing out". I like that. Guitar solo is tasty and I am always a fan of Andrews earthy bass tone. He plays this nicely and really makes great note choices, as always. Really good fellas, really good.

It's encouraging to read your take on this song. I find it hard to get past my voice and was planning to have someone else do them but unfortunately they were down a computer right now. I know you feel somewhat the same way when it comes to vocals even though I think yours sound better. I have to agree, Andrew did a fantastic job on the bass and came through with flying colors. Thanks for the listen my friend.

I always enjoy your vocals and guitars John, and adding Andy on bass certainly hasn't hurt the final product. A really good song which shows what a capable all-rounder you are - production is tops.

Thanks for the kind words, you are always there to coach me on and your level of musicianship is a good standard to meter too. One of these days maybe I can find that sweet spot you seem to achieve on your mixes. As far as Andrew, he did an exceptional job and more than expected.

Hey John - nice tune - interesting guitar work throughout and some very solid bass playing, Andrew. I like how you avoid just playing chords in the choruses - instead using riffs to carry the chord progression - sounds really cool. Nice harmonies, and the solo at the end is well played, relaxed and creative. A great collab effort guys - I really enjoyed - multiple listens!

Every time I try to do a lead the attempt is to make it sound different, usually it ends up all the same. I should study some scales and try some new techniques but they don't feel natural to me. Like they say, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I'm with you on the riffs with the chords, it was an acoustic piece originally when I sent the first take to Andrew, when the bass track was sent back it sparked some new ideas and so the song developed this way. Always an honor to read your comments my friend.

A kind of longing...
...permeates this sensitive track, so appropriate to the lyrics. The vocal and instrumental presentation delivers this message with clarity and honesty. Bass is tasty and never overpowers the rest of the instrumental mix. Nice. ... I think this would be a wonderful addition to a scene in a movie where desperation comes into the narrative begging for some forgiveness and some hope. Really a beautiful song. I enjoyed it so much!

Beautiful song - heartfelt and honest
great guitars wrapping around that super solid bass line. I like the mix of the acoustic and electrics. Killer lead - soaring but not boasting - true feel like the rest of the song. Is that where your handle comes from?

Thanks for dropping by, yes, that's the idea and I came up with the handle/name once when listening to the chorus line from "Lightning Crashes". I'm glad you liked the mix of the acoustic/electric wrapped around a bass. That's a good way to describe it. The song started out as an acoustic piece, after I heard the first track Andrew sent, it sparked some ideas and the electric guitars came next. The results were better than I had expected. Andrew really came through and I'm glad there is a place like macjams that offers a large list of collaborators.

Saw this a lot in the sixties, and pitied my wayward "freak friends." Now I'm seeing it as a father. Good message here, John. I love your guitars too, and Andrew does a superb bass here. Great song by both of you. D/L

Thanks for dropping by and listening, means a lot. I know what you mean, as a father unfortunately I did as well. Some take a long time to grow out of that kind of situations, some are quicker to recover and others I wonder if they ever do. Thanks for the comments, I agree, Andrew does a superb job.
