Description
A country feel to this one. My friend from Primary School days, Peter Thorneycroft, is playing harmonica and he helped out with the recording, too.

I had fun with this one, and I hope you enjoy listening!

Lyrics
One Side Of The Story

Verse 1
She told her friends that I had left her
She asked how that could come about
I didn’t have a reason
To let the fire burn out

She had said I was lazy,
And I just didn’t get things done
That I couldn’t be relied on,
Now she wished that I was gone

Chorus
But that’s just one side of the story,
And another could be told
That’s just your side of the story
That’s why things have turned so cold

Verse 2
She had said that I was no good
That she didn’t see the signs
And she said that she’d been crying
When she thought about my lines

Now this is going nowhere
I could never be the one
She said her eyes had opened
She could see what I had done

Chorus
But that’s just one side of the story,
Another view of what we had
That’s just what you see from your side,
Of how good turned into bad

Instrumental

Chorus
That’s just one side of the story,
And another could be told
That’s just your side of the story
That’s why things have turned so cold

But that’s just one side of the story,
Another view of what we had
That’s just what you see from your side,
Of how good turned into bad

That's just what you see from your side
Of how good turned into bad.

My 1st Impression was
Greetings Phillip.. My 1st impression was this could have been a Kenny Rogers song way back early in this career ( late 60's-early 70's) I really like where you took the lyrics. The harmonica was right on target. This song is a hit to my ears..Excellent

Rolling country blues. Smooth as a velvet glove but with lyrics that suggest that its grip is not all that favourably positioned :-) Pete's harp work adds so much. Wry and a touch wistful. Fine work, Philip. Talk soon, Peter.

I was going to put some answering harmony in the verses, but my resident critical ear told me it sounded awful, so that version hasn't seen the light of day! Yes, Thorn adds character to the mix!

Wow. Really tasty guitar picking here. Classic old country tale of woe in a uplifting tune. The vocals are really well tracked. Nice mix.

Strong songwriting here Philip... music rolls along like a train ... lyrics are great but now I want to hear the other side of the story. The harmonica is the perfect touch for this song. Fine picking on that guitar!
Cheers

Hi Stan
I did a couple of versions, Stan, and this one is a bit quicker than earlier ones, which seems to suit it better. I thought the harp had the right tone for the lyrics. The Other Side of the Story? There's an idea!

Hey Philip - enjoyed this! I was reading the lyrics as I listened (something I rarely do) and was getting quite a kick out of them! The harmonica is a nice touch. The song flows smooth and creamy, like soft butter - nice work!

I always love...
...a song that tells a story. And you tell a familiar and comfortable one here, though it's about parting of the ways. The rolling band is perfect as accompaniment, as is that wonderful harmonica solo (Peter Thorneycroft!!! Wouldn't you just love to have that as a last name?!) The mix of all elements is about as perfect as it can be. And your vocal, Philip, is right on the money. What a wonderfully pleasant track to listen to. Super.

One Side of the Story
very well written, great storytelling, I read ahead to see what the other side of the story was, and that's what makes a great song, wanting to know what's next! Nice country feel to it, and the harmonica added another layer, depth and nicely mixed!

Another well told story by you my friend. It takes a certain vocal quality to to effectively communicate lyrics in folk music and you have shown time and time again that you have the goods. harmonica was a nice touch and everything seems to fit pretty nicely in the mix. Nicely done.
