Description
Here's another of the long languishing tunes I've had around that needed lyrics. Again, not the greatest singer here, but I try. Logic Pro X's pitch correction features have helped a bit, but even that can't fix some things. Also love the new Logic drummer feature, so easy to get a pretty decent sounding drum bed. I have little patience for drum programming, so it is a welcome addition to the arsenal. Drums, bass, 3 guitars, piano, synth, 3 lead vocals and 3 sets of 2 backing vocal harmonies on the chorus bits. My brother Andrew contributed a couple of the guitars. His is the sustained wailing one...It's the story of the last year, which has been one of the hardest of my life. A major work burn-out+flame-out. Soul searching career re-boot, health hurdles, deaths, you name it. This is the story if the road back.

Lyrics
The Road Back
©2015 Racerat

It’s not the curtain call
The scenery revolving
Rows of upturned faces
The stage and set dissolving

It's the story that's being told
Of a fire that's taken hold

Gods and fools will know
The value of this man
His history is told
He’s done all that he can

Hands raised to the sky
Be open to remember
The colors of the dream
The glowing of the ember

It's the story
Of the road back

It's the story of the road

Glad music is helping you get over a tough period, RR. Some fine lyrics and a heartfelt performance. It is great having a drummer "on tap". Welcome back. Take care, Peter.

Don't I know it. Anyone with a Mac is a designer. The branding world has been undergoing a real paradigm shift. Trying to change with it and carve a new path. Constant re-invention is the game these days. Music has been a great release valve through it all.

Wow!
Prayers bro! Blessings! This is pretty amazing how much it reminds me of the sixties early Pink Floyd..... which I love! I love it, if I heard this on the radio I would Shazam it! Jd.

Open to Remember
For what it's worth, I've always liked your voice. You sing like you mean it, which is the only thing that matters to me, but you also have a good rock voice. I'm sorry your year has been so tough. I think this song probably speaks to a lot of people who have crossed the 40 line. I know it speaks to me. Totally d/l and will be using it as my middle-aged anthem from time to time. :) Great one, Phil, and I'm so glad to hear that music is helping you keep your head up.

Well you just made my day. Thanks so much for your kind words and for the props on my feeble pipes. I'm glad it spoke to you in some way. I did indeed cross that 40's line - a while ago and the changes that come with age just keep delivering surprises - challenges, and opportunities. Head up and leaning in...

Thats my favorite thing to play with. I love multi tracking vocals and messing with harmonies, refrains, cadences. It's like painting with sound!

Good song
And it was fun to do. I actually have to revise the liner notes. I had forgotten that my brother Andrew actually did a couple of the guitars on tis one. We have so many works-in-progress it's sometimes hard to remember who did what on what song when there are 20 tracks weaving in and out. I'm sure you can relate!

The Road Back
The music and the overall feel of the song matched your year as you shared in your description Racerat, very well done with expressing honestly the depth and the magnitude of this road you've been on, and the road back....you painted a vivid picture for me, which is what great songs and music do, kudos to you Racerat, thanks for sharing...sorry for your stretch of highway that covered so much in a short time...hope you are on your way to rainbows once some healing and health are restored.

Restoration
Hey thanks so much for the well wishes and the thoughtful comment and listen. I really appreciate the thought and consideration. They say, "the only constant is change" and don't I know it. Also, "Pain is growth" so if you're hurting you must be growing. I feel like I grew a foot last year alone...

...I particularly like the "story" you are telling here. Much to think about and filled with expectation for a better day. ... Driving track that is full of seething energy and purpose. I enjoyed hearing this track.

I went to school for the fine arts, painting, and taught that for a while, but I am now a graphic design executive by day, and a musician most the rest of the time. I play guitar and bass mostly, do midi synth stuff, use drum machines ... [see more]
