Lyrics
Mystery inside this place
Haunts me in my dreams
It’s not a crime
To speak your mind
Nothing’s what it seems
A crazy man up on the hill
He’s laughing in the rain
He’s looking at the water flow
He never feels the pain

I’m holding on
It won’t be long
Until I’m gone

Running water on the sand
It’s sinking far below
Underneath there’s nothing left
Of seeds we tried to sow
So drink my wine and eat my bread
That’s all I have to give
It won’t be long until I find
The path we have to tread

I’m holding on
It won’t be long
Until I’m gone

Looking at the water fall
It’s washed our lives away
Only here to make amends
I’ve nothing left to say
I’m holding on
It won’t be long
Until I’m gone

Thanks Vic
I had two full days working on this after laying down the guitar rhythm and drums.
Once I got going on this tune everything seemed to come together very quickly.
Thanks for the listen and comments.

Lyrics...
...Got me thinking about what they might mean. I think there's a message and a story here that has something to do with redemption...maybe in a religious sense, but not necessarily so. The song itself is so solidly orchestrated and chugs along at an insistent pace, strong vocals and that wonderful lead bridge about 1/2 way in. What a great post!

I
thought about their possible meaning after this song was completed although I was inspired to write the lyrics from a news story about a flood. It's usually the poor people that suffer the most in natural disasters by living on the low land and how everything is destroyed but they adapt to move on.
Thanks for your kind comments Paul and I'm glad you enjoyed this song.

Vanuatu?
Did the cyclone inspire this? I like the guitar at 2.05 - ish, as well as the arrangement and production. The chugging rhythm really brings it all together, like The Dude's rug.

I
already had the idea for this song before the cyclone so no inspiration there, I just happened to record this the same time as that terrible disaster.
Good to hear from you again Graham and I'm pleased you enjoyed, thanks for your kind comments.

Great that you had some time to write a new song, Bob. Sounds like it would be a good song to play live, especially guitar wise. Liking the solo, too. Solid mix. Time well spent. Thanks, Peter.

Yes
With just three chords and potential to improvise on the night it would be a good song to perform live, I miss doing that :-)
Thanks for the kind words Peter and I'm glad you enjoyed this number.

Great arrangement and groove. This song shines in its simplicity. You did everything right on this one Bob. I like the dynamic drop off at the break, then a cool solo. Great tune - enjoyed!

The bass line really grabbed me. The little 16th note runs in the bass add quite a lot. Liking the lush rhythm guitars, straight ahead and very effective. Nice lead work Good tune, nice mix.

Smooth and smokin'
Bob, this sounds great. A really good production on some fine playing.
It's not a nit, but something to ponder - our drummer always says my vocals are too clean when I try a rockier song, and I'm wondering whether you might have considered using a bit more overdrive on your vocal track. I've always chosen to ignore his suggestion, but have thought about it at times.
You have really nailed the drum track on this.
The sound is really good - congratulations!
Cheers,
Neil

I
know what you mean about my vocals, I don't really have the right voice to sing rock numbers like this as my voice is better suited to acoustic numbers and the more mellow tunes.
You have given me some good advice though as I've often thought about using overdrive on my vocal tracks but I never seem to think about actually doing it when I record.
I will now have to experiment with the effect to see if this makes a difference as I do like to write and record these rock numbers so thanks for the little tip on that Neil.

I appreciate your kind thoughts on my tune and thanks for taking the time to listen.

Cherished songwriting moment
This represents one of those moments we all cherish as songwriters .. that circumstance when we have a few uninhibited days to work on a composition and all of the different elements come together to produce a fine song.

It's that chorus .. which keeps coming at you like a storm's runoff .. that really sticks with me.

Yes it
was one of them rare moments when everything did come together well for me to produce this song so quickly, I made full use of the two days I had so it was definitely a cherished song writing moment for me Warren.

Thanks for taking the time to have a listen and I appreciate your kind comments.

the way the vocals are mixed...thought you could have maybe held some of the vocal notes a bit longer, though. great guitar, and the chorus is very catchy. cool song.
