Description
OK, one more re-post … and that's it (I think). An oldie with a new title.

Corruption. Bad. Don't do it.

Hi, Harald
Thank you, sir. Still cannot get a really good bass sound, but it will have to do for now.

Recycler
Sounds great. The plodding bassline recalls an assembly line worker. The 80s synth treatments are fun. The reverb and echo effects are effective. Great all around production.

Hi, KC
Thanks for coming by. The harmonies got a little buried in this new mix, so I'm glad you noticed. I kinda liked that part.

Powerful and well developed. I like the variety of sounds and the placement of the instruments in the mix. Impressive, Les!

Hi, Phillip
Thanks for the nice comment on the mix. I work with headphones, and my left can is starting to malfunction, so I haven't been really confident with the left-right.

Hi, Tim
Those drums. I used to use Addictive Drums, and they were so much easier to get the BIG sound. I'm having to learn the drum kit on LP X, and it's hard to get exactly what I want. Still working on it. I guess tapping lightly works OK here. Thanks for the comment.

I like the changes of pace and the way the bass underpins everything. Frenetic and fluid in turn. Fine guitar work, as always. Thanks, Les. Peter.

Hi, Peter
The guitar work is partly just a lot of noise, but I had some fun with it at the time. I appreciate you coming by and commenting, Thanks.

I hit Like and DL before it started
and was not disappointed. Just in time for the traditional Easter progfest here in Freeport. (I wish.)

Hi Graham
Not one of my stronger pieces, in my own humble opinion, but there are parts of it that I like. Easter progfest hahaha. Yes, there's no better way to commemorate the resurrection than with some loudish proggy music. Hear, hear!

Wow. Well, I won't argue with you. Maybe there's some of that buried down there deep in my memory. Todd is … well, you know.

hi Les. this is solid and worthy of a repost, in my opinion. i like the laid back feel to the song which serves as counterpoint to the concept. your guitar chops shine in this piece. i'm curious about the title, can you help me understand what it means or refers to? thanks for the free music.

Les_Kloo said 923 days ago (April 8th, 2015)
Hi, Steve
"Painting the Mice" is a term that refers to fraud in the scientific community. The origin of the term goes back to a biologist by the name William Summerlin, who actually painted mice, while claiming that he had made skin transplants, an otherwise important result related to the immunological rejection of transplanted tissue. As far as I know, it did not involve money, but there seems to be no small amount of that going on these days. But as scientists will say, "They're not REAL scientists!" Eh.

Thanks for the comments, Steve. Always appreciate your feedback.

Late to comment. I didn't have a chance to listen to the original post, so thank you for re-posting. I hear a little bit of Rush here and there. The synths add some oriental touches to the mix. The themes develop freely, with a lot of musical ideas. Looking forward to your new materials.

Late?
Nah. No time limits at MJ. Even if the tunes aren't timeless, the posts remain. The Rush is in the opening chord, which I stole from Digital Man (which I'll call F#11 (5th omitted). Very good ear you have there. New materials one of these days. Thanks for the nice words.

is what we all should be doing.
you sound almost far eastern in places....and far out generally.
the bass is urgently haunting...and then instantly upbeat and smiley.
cool contradictions.
there used to be a timer on tracks but it isn't there.....so i love the section kinda five eighths in....writing and listening.
the last but one section is nightmarish.....and i'm listening in bed and frightened to sleep now.
it's all over.
genius as always.

Serious, happy, uh-oh, nightmare, business as usual. Then we forget and do it all again. There's enough mice painting without us joining in. Thanks for listening to my humble efforts. I always appreciate your comments.

You know, as much as I love this kind of music, I don't aspire to create it myself because you have already covered the waterfront in a masterly fashion. I'd much rather listen to what comes out of your inspired mind any day! Another great piece Duane - all the right elements are there in that perfect balance you set up so well. Thanks!
