Description
“A Little Light” is our first Sigmund’s Strangedream release in almost a year. It is another one of those tunes that had to have the dust blown off first, as it was originally recorded back in late 2012, and then shelved. It was a challenging project for me, as I am used to creating big huge walls of sound productions, and as you'll hear this one really takes us down a different path.

This song has a particularly special meaning for Nat – and in her own words:

Wish I had more time to expound- check our Facebook page in a few days for a more exhaustive write up in regards to this tune. Composed in 2009 on an acoustic guitar that did not belong to me, in a place with little light (both figuratively and literally), and at a time when I was going through some tough things, this song is one of those that tends to mean what it means to each listener and to its writer as well. This being the case, I won’t say more about its theme, except to urge you to put whatever electronic device you likely have in your hand down for a moment and notice what and who surrounds you. Take the time to appreciate both before you go back to your day, and remember that the most valuable thing that we can give one another (in this lowly writer’s mind, at least) is your attention, if only for a moment. Think about who (or most likely what) gets your attention throughout the majority of your days and why that is and whether you’re happy with that being the case. That is all, end lecture, enjoy the song!

A.L.L. features the one and only rok41 on bass, and some exceptional acoustic guitar work from alackbass, including a pair of “tenor” guitar parts, which really gave the final mix sweetness and taste. Nat also plays some acoustic guitar, and of course there is her fantastic vox – the way she sings the last chorus in this song gives me chills!

On behalf of Natalie, Chris and Andrew, I want to thank you for stopping by to have a listen, and for your support here at macjams. We hope you enjoy “A Little Light”!

A LITTLE LIGHT
Words & music - N Scibetta
Copyright 2012 by SSD

Oh you crush me
All I really want is your attention
And a little of your light

Sometimes I wish I was invisible
I wish I wasn't just a problem
All I need is some attention and a little of your time
Oh Mama, just a little of your time

Oh you say you love me
But all you seem to do is run from me
All I need is some affection and a little of your time
Oh Mama, just a little of your time

Cuz I'm tired of banging on the bathroom door
Why can't things be like they were before?
Oh Mama - ooh just a little of your time

(Just a little of your time -
See your smile)

Cuz I'm tired of banging on the bathroom door
Why can't we be like we were before?
Oh Mama - just a little of your time
Oh Mama - just a little of your time

I just wanna tell you that
I miss the way we laughed...before

You just have to see who's involved and you know you're in for a treat. Gorgeous, emotive vocal from Natalie, striking guitar from Sig , driving bass from Chris and Andrew adds even more polish and style. Excellent song, superb performance. Thanks for the download!

Sig, it seems like some version of this song has been in my DB for years...oh wait, it has :) As always, it is my pleasure to work with such gifted musicians. This song is simple, direct and enlightening and is an excellent musical palette for Natalie's emotive voice to paint upon. Having Andrew along for the ride made this even better, what a great guy and fantastic musician. You really did a fine job creating a warm atmosphere through your keen musicianship and fab production skills. Glad to be a part of this...

Worth the Wait
Who knows why some songs take so long to come together? There's never a guarantee how things will turn out, but this one definitely was worth the effort .. and the wait.

Parent/child relationships can be so frustrating. Natalie's writing has done a great job of expressing that anxiety .. and the stirring trepidation of her fine singing really nails the angst of the need for affection.

I think the guitar solo's sensitively aptly reflects the lyrical content - that's good musicianship.

Sigmund said 666 days ago (April 30th, 2015)
Hey Warren
For me, often a song takes a different kind of inspiration to finish just right, than it did when it was conceived. So they sit on the shelf until that inspiration presents itself. Because this song had such a personal meaning for Nat, I know she felt the need to work at it until it felt exactly how she wanted it to feel. Sometimes that just takes time too.

Thank you for stopping by to listen and comment. Your support here means a lot to us.

Hi Jack
I often wonder why Natalie isn't actually ON the radio - she certainly has the talent. And, superb is an excellent word to describe Chris and Andrew. As much as I've listened to this song in getting it finished, I am still in awe at their performances. We really appreciate you taking the time to stop in and have a listen, and for leaving such a short, but so sweet comment - thank you!

Time Well-Taken
Considering the end result, whatever time was taken to polish this gem was well worth it. Each player in this musical drama has added some elegant nuance that seamlessly complements the whole, which gives it a very pro feel.

Natalie's sweet vocals, moving from a whispering murmur --- to an adrenaline-pumping rush --- are both heart-felt and felt in the heart of the listener.

This performance reminded me a great deal of Linda Ronstadt at her best. ;)

Hi J
So pleased you made it by to have a listen, and for leaving such a nice and thoughtful comment. You made a very quotable quote when referring to Nat's performance: "both heart-felt and felt in the heart of the listener." That says it all about her ability to move you with her singing. Chris and Andrew - they are simply pros in everything they do and did a fantastic job in helping to create this work. We really appreciate your support here - thank you so much!

Getting attention...
You certainly have done that here! And that "wall of sound"? You've even got that with the wide-warm guitar track backed so superbly with bass, drums, and a tiny bit of piano. Beautiful arrangement of a beautiful song, delivered with such sincerity and artistic perfection. Just an amazing song all around. (Oh, that lengthy guitar bridge is terrific!)

An excellent production, guys! This is a beautiful song, and I love Nat's voice! I wouldn't have minded her being a tad bit more up front, but the music was equally enrapturing. Very nice performance by all. Mix was top notch. Don't make us wait another year, Sig!

A Little Light, feat. strangedream, rok41 & alackbass
The first thing that hit me was the warmth and natural overall bass in the mix. This production is very different than what I have heard from you and I like it.
The soft approach and build up of the vocals are beautifully performed. Andrews acoustic sits in the mix like a soft blanket ... nice lead ... clean sound ... so glad you didn't rip one ... you kept it tasty.
Chris always does more than just lay it down. This style of song really grabs me. A fantastic collaboration of talent. Radio ready.

Hey Stan
You're right - this was a different kind of song, and it needed to be approached in a much different way than what I usually do. Having a great band to help out made it a lot easier, and anytime Natalie is singing the quality goes through the roof imo. Super glad you stopped by - always appreciate you taking the time to have a listen, and for leaving such a thoughtful comment - we thank you!

Sorry, Sig. Been having an MJ sabbatical. This is why I shouldn't stay way. Such a fine song. Wonderful songwriting, Nat. And such great vocal work, too. Delicate one minute. Powerful the next. Sig, you certainly know how to wrap a sympathetic arrangement around a song. Outstanding. Andrew's fine acoustic playing and Chris' understated bass lines blend so well with your tasty guitar work. A fine, fine post. Thanks to all. Kind regards, Peter.

Can't believe I missed this gem
I guess I'm not hanging around MJ enough. This is exceptional musicianship from all involved. Great changes and breaks through out that drop you off and pull you right back in again. Beautiful vocals with a fine bluesy melody, almost gospel like. Andrew's acoustic really carries the song along, he has this knack of playing skillfully clean. Chris on the bass hits the sweet spot nicely, not too much but just enough and Sig with those fine slightly saturated guitar tone couldn't compliment better. Thanks for another fine post, sorry it took me so long to find this.

Not a song that goes by on a single listen
Here is yet another in a string of really pro sounding tunes that you folks have put out in the last several years. I know I've probably said that before, but it has all of the performance chops, arrangement skill, and production/engineering to make it shine out. Of course Nat's vocal and the profound message in her lyrics stand proud in the centre, but there's way more to this song in terms of everyone's contributions and how they are skilfully woven together to make the whole. The magic, in my opinion, is in the subtlety of the artistic choices here and there: how much to play, how much to leave out, how strong, how tender, and especially how each riff is mixed (with effects at times) to support the song. My hat is off once again. It's a pleasure to hear what you folks can do as a group, and thanks for the download - it's a gift!
