Description
The line "City without pity" has been in my head for a long time .. and this song by that name has been in the works for some time now, too. But I'm done tinkering with it .. both musically and lyrically. The category should be "Soft Rock-Senior Contemporary.

Lyrics
CITY WITHOUT PITY

The price of bacon
just jumped two dollar a pound
Eight ninety-nine
are you out of your mind?
What this city without pity can do

If this line was any longer
my back would need to be much stronger
Such a popular place
I hope it’s worth the wait
What this city without pity can do
What this city without pity can do

We’ve had this conversation
About a million times before
There’s never a solution
There’s never absolution
That’s what this city without pity can do

Some days the future dances happily ahead
Some days I struggle just t get out of bed
This city without pity
A city without pity
A city without pity
A city
City no pity

City without pity can do...
(nice Gene Pitney touch...)

Warren.... delightful song. Guitar rocks - fun and melodic. Shades of Harrison. The Warren Smith sound!

Parallels
Years ago I wrote a line that was a deliberate reworking of Gene Pitney's 1961 "Town Without Pity" that went "Isn't it a pity what a city without pity can do to a lonely man that's just trying to take a stand." This time I was consciously trying to avoid the parallel .. until I realized it was virtually unavoidable. In fact, one of the tweaks I made was to change the lyrics from "What this city without pity will do" to "can do" as I nod to the Sixties classic. That said, the intent was never actually trying to rewrite that song .. as the "city without pity" line came along late in the development.

Gene Pitney all grown up
Senior concerns have taken over from teenage angst....

I like the creative backing. Definitely not strumming up and down.

Conceptions
Once the Gene Pitney parallel became part of the song .. I think that conceptual understanding was underscored. Certainly a major component in song writing for me is addressing contemporary issues .. and given my age that directly involves senior concerns : )
