Holiday in San Francisco (by Steve Booth)

Description
Here’s a good story for you.

I was painting the front of our house a while ago and, being out front for a number of days, I was on hand when our postman arrived on his motorbike to drop off the mail.

One day, the latest Stewart-MacDonald guitar parts catalogue arrived and we got to talking about guitars, and it turned out Steve (my postie) was a guitarist and songwriter, too.

Anyway, we have jammed together several times since and recently we decided to record one of Steve’s songs.

Steve’s strength is his guitar playing but he is a bit of an all-rounder and knows his way round a bass and was also able to bash out some keys for the song.

Holiday in San Francisco: Words and Music - Steve Booth
Steve: Left and center acoustics, bass, keys, lead break, harmony vocals
Moi: Lead vocal, right acoustic, Logic Drummer, mix, master.

See what you think.

Regards

Peter & Steve

smooooothhh...
Peter, this is a wonderful reprise of the summer of love. Warm production gives a nostalgic feel which is fitting to your lyrics. San Francisco... This is a real nice tune to end my day with. Thanks...

Very nice Peter
These chance musical meetings are often such a joy - well, especially when they turn out this good.
Very enjoyable post, with some nice musicianship and a solid mix.
Steve can clearly throw a few words together, and has really grabbed a slice of the "good old days" for me.
Good post!
Cheers,
Neil

Captured
Thanks, Neil. Steve has definitely captured a sense of what it must have been like in the "summer of love" with his song and we are happy that the way it turned out, musically, seems to reflect this, too. Take care, Peter.

First I have to say there's nothing like jamin' with the postman!!
Has a real 60's California folk rock feel. And the words fit the melody ... you both sound good together in the harmony section. Good job with the drums ... it gives it that folk rock feel Solid playing and a solid song.
Makes me want to smoke a fatty....
Cheers

Collaboration
The Postman Always Sings Twice! Or something like that : )

We strike up enough random conversations about music in the course of socializing with the general populace .. but it is rare when it actually leads to recording together. You two fit together nicely.

Not surprised....
Whenever I hear one of your tunes and the story that sails along with it, I know I am in for a musical treat that is wellcomposed, wellsung, and nicely arranged. You have such a perfect little package with this one and it is a pleasure to hear, indeed. I was, of course, mostly drawn to the "summer of love" general theme since I am a native of S.F. and have lived either directly in the city or nearby my entire life. Interesting take on it all from YOUR perspective. I enjoyed hearing your work with Steve the postie.

Native
Thanks, Paul. Interested to hear your comments, being a native S.F. dweller. Steve's song captures the nostalgia and ambivalence of the whole scene nicely and it was great fun to work with him. We appreciate you stopping by. Take care, Peter.

This would have suited the train journey I did once from LA to San Francisco. A perfect accompaniment.

Funny how
Chance brings us opportunities to collaborate. It's great that you were able to transform his song to share with us. I like the mix alot as the parts work to support the vocals. The guitar lead lines fit the genre nicely.

Thanks for sharing.

I ordered the catalog to be sent to my house and it arrived the other dat. Iam not a luthier but it reveals things about these instruments that are not always apparent. More of an Elderly.com guy for the moment. As a matter of fact, they're part of our annual budget. hehe
