Lennon's Inconsequential Latin Affair/Grah3am

Description
Hello strangers.
Brand new song with an old MJ buddy contributing, so I thought it only fair that I should post. Esp since he went thru the trouble of making different versions for me. Just a ditty.

Grah3am: acoustic guitars and bass.

Me: Electric guitars and Lounge Lizard driven with midi guitar. You can hear the original guitar playing along side its keyboard counterpart in the very last verse. Orig in center, key counter on right.

Thanks for making the song complete Graham!

Fun
It's always good to collaborate with Sam. A great song and production, I'm sure you'll all agree.

Thanks for helping me out. I think this is the first collab from my side (apart from the Socks), but I hope we do more--tho not necessarily this style.

Brilliant! Great song. The arrangement is so entertaining. The bass part really stands out. Great keyboard parts and choice of sounds. You have an amazing knack for harmonies and vocal arrangements.

Thanks Andrew
I haven't written many new tunes in months and months, maybe 2 or 3. I've been mostly sharpening the mixing skills with re-mixes of old stuff.
This was one of those "instant songs" that came in just a few minutes for the basic structure. After I worked it out, had to call on Graham.
Somebody mentioned to me that the vocals sounded like 10cc. Didn't see that coming!

that blend came mostly from Graham. I wasn't expecting either an acoustic guitar nor a fretless bass, but the fit right it.

Hello Stranger
Good to have you back in town Sammy. The iconic Lennon Rickie 6 string thing gives the tune that 1966 ambience... the digital sheen in the modern production kinda pushed the brittleness of that sound... can't take the Mop Tops out of Abby Road...

Funny
you think the sound is digital sheen when all I use is hardware emulated plugins (not that they *really* do the job)--every single one of them--and saturation . Maybe it's *mixing for clarity* that makes you feel that way?

My trk chain is:
Tube sim, Boz Digital +10 Compex emu, Klaghelm SDDR, and Tape sim on every single trk. So quite a bit of "distortion" going on wo making it ugly, obvious, or overbearing.

thx daug

Always good to find a new posting from one of my favorite musicians. Working with Graham --- great idea. Slinky cool tune. "Just a ditty." Yeah, well, that's something when it comes from you guys.

Me and
Graham hooked up for the Socks songs, but it occurred to me that I never asked him to play on one of mine...well, there was slim pickins for a spell. Didn't miss out when I wrote this one, though.

Hey EB!
When Graham first sent me his trks, I was expecting just a regular amped bass. Wasn't expecting a fretless at all. I told him I wasn't sure if that really fit, but he sent me an updated file (same fretless), and I was sold. Glad he was "persistent."
Usually when I collab, I rarely to never give any stipulations except occasionally something really general. Graham's contribution is an example why.

I love the way this sounds
also the way you build the production through the song - adding elements and gradually as the song unfolds. Are the keys really all mid guitar? Pretty cool.

Bud
I just listened back and heard all kinds of things I would have done differently in the 'production' and the mix. Why always *after* you post?

The keys were played using Jam Origin's software midi guitar (as opposed to a real and *expensive* real midi guitar. Try the demo! But then, you play keys, right? Ideal for us non-keyboardist, though.

hi sam
i thought you split from this site for good. i'm happy to hear you again... in that old familiar way. you and grah3am seem to have a special simpatico. i find the uniqueness of the bass riff to be really clever and engaging. and of course my admiration of your vocals (especially the background harmonies) is well documented. i hope we hear more from you two together. thanks for posting!

well,
one song from one person sort of ticked me off, but can't blame a whole site of good folk for one thing. And as stated, all I've mainly been doing musically was re-mixing old stuff anyway. still can't write as much as I like, but it's good to hear the music here again. Especially liked your latest, that stuck with me from the first play (and the ones that followed).

You guys make great music
Nice original tune. I would expect this to come from the two of you because you guys have a way of writing the unexpected that works. Does that make sense? Thoroughly enjoyed and welcome back Sam.

Hey, Sam. Been traveling in Europe, so I missed this. Backtracking for some gems. Found one :-) Great to hear your vocal work and creative arrangements back round MJ. Graham fills things out nicely and the bass sounds great. Always a treat, my friend. Thanks, Peter.

Great sounding vocals
I would add some more edge to the guitar like a fat amp with some reverb.

Fresh Mix
To my ear this sounds more like Lennon the son rather than the father, but that's not to say it's a bad thing. This is a delightful soundtrack containing one revelation after another and another. The mix feels familiar .. like it's been around for a while .. yet it also sounds fresh as a new made salad. That's good songwriting!
