Description
This comes from being mad as hell and muscle relaxers.

The anger comes from the stupidity of my region and my home state when it comes to hanging on to things that are better left on the trash heap of history. The muscle relaxers are from pulling a muscle in my back.

I'm all about learning the lessons of history and honoring those people and events that deserve honor. I'm for remembering the bad with the good and keeping both in their historical perspective. I'm not in favor of tradition for tradition's sake, especially when those traditions are built on hate and war.

I have stayed my inter life in my home state of Mississippi because it needs people like me. People who aren't stuck in the past. People who want to make the future better even if it's in the tiniest way. We keep a symbol of hated and oppression on our state flag and it's time for us to head the winds of change. Not just with our flag, but our monuments, street names, high school names, etc. named for who have been praised over the years for all the wrong reasons.

As for the song, it's pretty generic musically and was done in about two and a half hours. Everything is pretty much a first take. And don't forget - muscle relaxers. I may listen to this later and cringe, but here it is.

Lyrics
Divided We Stand
©2105 Joseph Gurner

Another day of hate and rage Em/G
Fills the news again C/Em
Tears stained eyes look up to the skies
When will this madness end

Blame the victims Blame the liberals
Blame the godless men
As hate-filled eyes look up at the skies
And swear to kill again

God and country Flags and guns C/Am
It feels like we’re at war Em
Divided we stand United we fall C/Am
What are we hoping for G/D

Will Confederate flags fly at half mast
As we count the dead
Empty eyes look up at the skies
And fill our hearts with dread

We raise our nightmares in our own homes
But look across the sea
Our blinded eyes look up to the skies
Ignore reality

God and country Flags and guns C/Am
It feels like we’re at war Em
Divided we stand United we fall C/Am
What are we hoping for G/D

God and country Flags and guns C/Am
It feels like we’re at war Em
Divided we stand United we fall C/Am
What are we hoping for G/D

Will words of peace reach our ears
Or get lost in the fray
My tired old eyes look up to the skies
Has hope gone away
Has hope gone away
Has hope gone away

I love the rawness of this - sometimes straightforward is just...better! Reminds me a lot of Neil Young. Good job - enjoyed!

love
the message. the mix works well. I think the vocal could use a little compression. It sits on top of the mix and would love to hear it a little farther back. The playing is spot on. I really like the depth of distortion on the guitars. Is this through an amp or direct? Nice job and thanks for posting..

vox
I think your vox is perfect right where it is, don't change it, it makes all the difference, makes the contrast greater

Sometimes It's Hard
Well I am sure Mississippi has nothing on Louisiana. I always felt like an alien from another planet growing up. When they integrated my high school is when I think the cynical bitterness started to grow as I watched the so called authorities turn a blind eye to big white jocks beating on black girls.
