Description
Me and Rubydubidoux loungin around.
A super oldie newly mixed and with Elaine featured on vocals.

The only real instruments in this is my acoustic guitar and the brass.
The brass is Ueberschall Liquid Instruments which allows you to manipulate audio like midi. The rest is midi.

Me and Elaine lead and background vocs.

Moves along smoothly. Crisp backing. Engaging vocals. All good, Sammy!

The Unreal McCoy.
The midi sounds very convincing, Sam. In fact the whole thing sounds like you are live at some jazzy night spot. Excellent vocals from the two of you too.

Put that
down to good ol' convolution reverb. I'll prob darken Elaine's voice some if I ever re-visit. After re-listening, I think she's a bit too bright (my mixing, not her voice).

Smooth
Once again you have me in the third row of the club.
Perfect pitch dual
Great use of the tools available.
Sounds all the way live....

See above
Steve. I think I used a "Dark jazz club" IR, and compressed it just enough to keep it cozy. Have one on me.

Some sincere grit
man this is like a scope of ground up swing put into a smooth machine
really love the right tone in your voice and Elaine is like a 30's singer resurrected wow really blows me away and the horns are real really too much :)

yeah, the
horns are real but edited. slip a note here, slide a note there but if you go too far, you get stretch marks. thx EB

What a sound!
I would not have thought midi came into play in this... I was thinking I was in a downtown Jazz dive. Super nice! Nicely done man!

Thanks Mark
The bass is Kontakt Cherry Bass, and the pianos are from Sampletank3. I forgot to put it in the info, but the drums are real also. I think I used one of those drum construction kits back then (this is years old and don't recall what I used). Once I discovered Addictive Drums, that was all over.

Cool lounge tune...
The performance is smooth and tasteful. Once I clear the smoke out of my eyes, I can see/hear your little ensemble nimbly strolling through this little "walking" tune. Refined performances here. Congratulations to all. Sounds like a live event to me, a tribute to your careful mixing. Wow.

Minnie, the Moocher

...reminded me of that ancient tune by Cab Calloway from the eary 30s ... You've captured the style with your "reserved" performance.

Yes, I've
heard and really love that old tune. Almost up there with Fever (Ella Fitzgerald's version) for me in that genre.

Don't Go Too Far/Elaine
What's a guy got to do to get a martini around here? :-) The lounge lizard is alive and well. Cool, laid-back grove and some fine tonal shadings, both vocal and instrument wise. Thanks for allowing me back in the club you two. Kind regards, Peter.

Don't Go Too Far/Elaine
You are one versatile musician...Some people think that you can just pull up a midi instrument and play the notes to make it sound real,,I know that aint so...Excellent work Sam..Much enjoyed!

Appreciate that J.
A big part of the credit is using decent samples. Also, I turn off all preset eq and/or comp on samples so I get the rawest sounds and apply my own eq/comp. Putting effects on top of fx just gets convoluted and artificial. That's also why if I mix someone else's trks, I want them complete raw with absolutely nothing done to them--excepting maybe an "amped" guitar or bass. Can't stand re-amping. Then I can mix away.

Martini
Fun song.

I like the mix. It has the right mood. Except for the strings. Way too synthetic.

sammydix said 738 days ago (August 15th, 2015)
those
strings are easily the weakest instrument and they are indeed a synth. didn't quite meld. thanks for that, Vic.

Love the way you handle this style.
Sounds so natural. And Elaine does a fine job complimenting your vocals. Digging the changes and the keys really stick out on this one for me. It has that Hammond sound to it. Enjoyed the listen, really has a lazy feel to it.

A different side
The SamExperience gets deeper....
I don't know if you're an Arto Lindsay fan, but he's a fave of mine. He did a song called 'Don't Go Too Far' and, like you, he's a shape shifter. I like everything about this one (even the plastic strings). A pretty magical track.

Wow Sammy at his finest ... sorry I missed this treat ... your vocals are superb. Elaines vocal is just the right spice ... I would have automated her vocals in spots ... when they first come in maybe pull back just a touch. So good .............
