Stronger With Love - w David Gomez

Description
A collaboration with David Gomez (Magullo here at MacJams). I started writing the words for David's love song while traveling the roads of Spain with Bridget, Elias and Pat. David had created a complete soundtrack, leaving room for my vocals. My first attempt to record my lyrics was done at Four Hands Project studio near Segovia. It was pretty awful. In the ten months since coming back home from Spain, I have endeavored to perfect the lyrics and my singing. Your comments appreciated.

Lyrics
Stronger With Love

Be my friend, thrill my heart
Every day, from end to start
Grow my senses, be my star
Fill all of me with all you are
Oh, when I touch your happy soul
That tender touch makes me whole

I'm less of me when you are gone
I need you here to dance our song
The better part of us grows
Stronger with love

Better, brighter, stronger with love!

I invest my life in your gentle soul,
You got the best of me, that's all I know.
Each moment, each pleasure, sigh or laugh
There's no other treasure I'd rather have
My senses are heightened when I'm with you
My spirit is brightened in all we do

I know that sometimes we must say goodbye
It's then I feel lost without your light

My friend, thrill my heart
Every day, from end to start
Grow my senses, be my star
Fill all of me with all you are
My friend, thrill my heart
Every day, from end to start
Grow my senses, be my star
Fill all of me with all you are

In your heart I'm sure you know
The better part of us will grow
Stronger with love
Stronger with love

Sort of epic-sounding...
The orchestration is so rich and lush and the contour of the vocal melody speaks of something serious and profound in the lyrics. I think the lyrics can be interpreted on many levels, but mostly on a spiritual plane, not necessarily religious at all, but elevated to a level requiring deeper understanding/analysis. Richard, your vocal here is really rich and full and very pleasant to listen to. What a great collaboration of talents. Beautiful composition beautifully performed.

Kind remarks.
Thank you, Paul, for taking the time to explore my lyrics and melody-making for David. His original seed of thought for the lyrics was this phrase: "I'm lost without you." I took it from there, trying to give a potentially negative sentiment a positive spin.

Lovely vocal work, Richard. And you have done a very fine job with the lyrics. Positive and inspiring. The big, lush, reverb rich arrangement works well in parts but, to me, it tends to be a bit too all-encompassing and the vocals get buried in the mix a bit too often? Great song, though. Thanks, Peter.

Buried in the mix
Yes, David writes powerful, epic music. It is hard to know when to sing and how loud to make my voice relative to the instrumentation. I am already on version 10 of this song with more to come, I'm sure. I have an earlier vocal run which has less of a whispering voice and rises more above the soundbed. Want to hear it?

Out of action
Hi Richard. Sorry, been out of action for a couple of weeks with illness and a death in the family so I only just saw your message. Happy to hear a more vocal centric version of the song. My email is peterb7858@gmail.com
Regards, Peter.

David and I are flattered. I should also mention that Alberto Ayuso had a hand in this.

You and David...
When the two of you connect it is music gold. And this is not only not an exception but is the best example. Lovely all the way through... David is an amazing talent. With you as his front man it is the best.

I just heard from David
He says we should work on the song more. I do think that section where my voice is barely heard can be improved. Looking forward to making this song even better. I started playing around with a simple acoustic guitar version I can sing at a cafe or skyway.
