Description
My second song from our excellent time in Franche Comté in the northern summer. Music written in France and lyrics on our return to Oz after I did a little somnambulation on our first night back in our own bed - hadn't done that in over 30 years. Lyrics are stream of consciousness about the trip and being home.
Jan does the top harmony in the three part harmony bits.

I Walked In My Sleep Last Night
©2015 Neil Porter

Just got back from promised land
Doom in doorway blood on sand
Have to do the best I can
Just got back from promised land

Big white bird on 2 day flight
Twelve hours sleep might put me right
Airports get me feeling tight
Big white bird on 2 day flight

I walked in my sleep last night
I walked in my sleep last night

SOLO

Hole in pillow dreamed too hard
Racked up fortune credit card
Jet lag, gulf stream, beggar, guard
Hole in pillow dreamed too hard

Out the door in my sleep last night
In the dark you’re out of sight
Mumbling fool done nothing right
Out the door in my sleep last night

Walked in my sleep last night
Walked in my sleep last night

Somnambulist
That's a bit scary, Neil! Love the clean backing - excellent mix! Engaging song. Love the guitar solo - has a nice bit of scream to it. Your trip seems to have got the creative juices running!

Thanks for listening. I've always wondered how I could squeeze "somnambulistic" into a song description - next challenge will be to get it into a lyric :)
I may have exagerated (but only slightly) in the first verse, but coming home was a little more challenging than normal. We had a brilliant time away.
It is a considerable relief to have some new songs coming. I've cut back on PBGB by 50% which has given me extra time in the week to write, and the time away was very inspiring. Hopefully I'll have another song soonish.
Cheers,
Neil

Great lyrics Neil. You perfectly described my last overseas trip. I can relate to how you felt.

Cheers. Not real clear from the words perhaps, but the dramas were on arriving home, not while we were away. Being away was just one great day after another - which is not bad for 10 weeks ;)
Thanks for listening.

Occasionally a stanza really hits. I think of Leonard Cohen, Dylan, Paul Simon, guys who come up with a set of partial sentences that say far more than expected. I love this:

Hole in pillow dreamed too hard
Racked up fortune credit card
Jet lag, gulf stream, beggar, guard
Hole in pillow dreamed too hard

Fab. I kind of want it to reverberate longer, this summary of an entire thing. This intimation of something far larger than the thing itself. Love it.

Thanks for continuing to write, record and share. Much love.

Thanks yet again for your kind comments on one of my songs - they are always enjoyed and appreciated. I was really struggling with melody and lyrics on this, until it dawned on me that I could remove a lot of irrelevant words ("the" was the first to go) and fit a more concise, and arguably interesting storyline into a pared down melody. It is good to see that you noticed.
I hope all is well with you and the family.
Cheers fro Oz,
Neil

Sleep Walkabout
Like the story in this tune. The lyrics fit the dreamy haze. Did you recall sleep walking or did someone tell you they saw you?

Thanks for the download.

Thanks for the listen and comment. I remembered scattered bits of the associated dream the next morning, but the confirmation of the somnambulism came from Jan who heard me banging about trying to open the door out to our front deck and came to see what I was up to. The dream itself involved ancient buidings and scenes from other eras - no great surprise considering some of the places we had been staying and visiting. I'm hoping for a new tune based on the history of the part of France we were living - hopefully soon, but don't hold your breath.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Love the approach
And makes you wonder if it was all but a dream. Dreamy vibe to the song and that choice of keys match the feeling well. A lot going on with the background sound bouncing around and works so well. Great vocals that fit in this fine mix. I should mention that nice guitar lead as well.

In the groove, Neil. Really good. One of your best, IMHO. Great lyrics. Your vocals suit this perfectly. Wonderful backer. Fine guitar solo. Nice open, warm mix. Pro stuff. Should be playing on Power FM in Bega :-) Thanks.

Wow.
Album release quality right here. Started the download before the solo began playing, though if I hadn't done it by then that would have got me to do so. Fantastic, another track that adds to the amazement of MacJams, where I can download great music without paying and it's not stealing. I hope everyone involved is proud of this.

This is one of your finest, Neil, and that's saying a lot. Loved that guitar, and the lyrics are fine indeed! "Hole in pillow.....", wish I'd written that. Keep them coming, Neil. This one's a keeper!

I'm with those...
...who love the solo...I love the space you give it, both sonically and in terms of the time and phrasing...

I like the organ-ish sounding thing, too....

This song is full of interesting textures and sounds, and not too many of them...it's like each element is trusted to carry its weight and be its own thing...

Nice spooky vibe, too...
Ed Hannifin said 503 days ago (November 7th, 2015)
I think this song...
...has one of your best electric guitar solos, Neil...

I like it as a song, too, but listening on my crappy little MacBook speakers in less than ideal circumstances, the solo really stood out...

Great lyrics...
