Description
This is pretty much a complete re-do of a song I posted in 2011. There are new bass, drum and vocal tracks, and some tweaking of the chord changes (an embarrassing error in the original!) - plus a much better mix and general production.

We've tried this live in the Shed a few times without success, so I decided to completely re-jig it.

This is very loosely based on a guy from "The Maze of the Muse" by Larry Buttrose. It's not a great book, but has some interesting characters in it.

"Mojozu" is derived from a local zoo's name, but means a lot more than that. In the context here it's every/any place you go to feel better and to get over a bad mood or a bad string of events. "I'm going down to the mojozu" might mean you're going for a walk, to a café, to the beach or even to a place they keep animals.

Hope you like this vastly better version.

Lyrics
MoJoZu
©2011 Neil Porter

I’ve got your number in my pocket
I’ve got your sweet face in my head
Gotta get to work
But I think I’ll stay here in bed
I’ve got money in my wallet
Hearing something that you said
I’m gonna get down to the
MoJoZu instead

Down at the MoJoZu
Hanging at the MoJoZu
I’m gonna trawl the lost and found
At the MoJoZu

When your telephone stops ringing
And your rent is overdue
Get yourself on down
To the Mojozu
If your heart has started pounding
Walls are closing in on you
You’d better get down
To the Mojozu

Down at the MoJoZu
Hanging at the MoJoZu
I’m gonna trawl the lost and found
At the MoJoZu

If you’re fighting with your black dog
If there’s danger up ahead
You’d better get down
To the MoJoZu instead
Radar on for early warning
If your code is turning red
You’d better get down
To the MoJoZu instead

Down at the MoJoZu
Hanging at the MoJoZu
I’m gonna trawl the lost and found
At the MoJoZu

Okay, in the spirt of the old MacJams...
I think is a strong song, and I like the 'conceit' behind the Mojozu... A good and useful ideal, and a nice basis for the lyrics... Strong vocal, too...

I am envious of the way your guitar playing chops have evolved over the years, and also envious of your facility with Ozone. You have definitely mastered the Art of Impact...You've also become a past master of trimming things down to the essentials....

This is a fairly straightforward, ALMOST Chuck Berry-ish rendering of the basic tune. I could almost hear a sort of Meters/Nevilles syncopation in the drumming or drum/bass lock helping this to get a little more rhythmically engaging...

Very cool hearing new Neil things over the past couple weeks...

Vastly better is a good thing
This one comes from the Stax vault? The bass line here is excellent and the groove pushes the proceedings in fine style. Thanks for sharing your work with us here.

Liked this a lot last time round. Great to hear an updated version. Super hook and harmonies on the tag line. Strong guitar work. Nice one, Neil. Thanks.

Classic Jiggy lilt on the guitar. Some day i'd like to stroll the lanes at The Mojozu. But til then I have this great tune from The Shed. Cheers from The Western Oz.
