Back on 14 March 2015, I posted No. 144 from my “By The Numbers” series of piano solos. Peter commented at the time, “You need to head towards a baker’s dozen dozen next.” That idea has danced through my head more than once in the past eight months or so. I wondered (1) if or when I would reach No. 169; (2) what No. 169 would sound like if I ever actually did get there. Well, the wait is over. … Here’s No. 169. I hope you will enjoy the little romp.

As always, the score can be found here:
if you are interested in seeing it, watching it drift by as the music plays, or if you want to give it a go yourself.

Now, I wonder what No. 170 will sound like?

Strangely poetic - looking at a sea of donuts, while listening to this beautiful composition. Similar to imagining going to heaven and realizing that clouds are made of donuts?!

Your piano playing briefly takes me to a different world. A lighter, more refined and inspired reality. And with such effortless simplicity too.

Thanks for this uplifting, albeit calorie heavy treat:)

Quite often I see images from a Ingmar Bergman montage when I hear some of your sweet piano works. The camera lovingly roams through rooms beautifully decorated for the holidays. There may and usually is drama about to unfold but the beauty of these moments is all that matters.

Something Sweet
Always knew you would make it, Paul :-) And you have brought many of us joy along the way. Thank you. Something Sweet, yes, but no saccharin here, just pure, refined, pleasure. Now I guess 200 is the next peak to aim for... Take care, Peter.

Most inventive
As I was listening to the progressions wander through keys I was taken by the similarity to your photo choice. It's all sweet but it comes in so many colours and textures, all sitting beside one another! This has so many lovely elements and themes that morph and get passed around, the perfect timing variations are engagingly emotional, and the ending is like patting one's stomach after a good meal. Bravissimo to the 169th power.

Something Sweet
A very apt title, Paul - indeed it is something sweet. For some reason the MJ player only played a minute of it for me, but the download works fine so I did get to hear it all and have it for future listening. Delightful!
