Face Down Again

Description
I got a new Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro III guitar.
This song was written so that I could try and fit a little extra lead to see how the tone rings.
The song is a slower tempo than I like; I find it harder to play slower.
The song also required a bit more artistic vocals which is not my favorite either.
The song is longer than 4 minutes by a little. I try to keep my songs under 4 minutes because most people lose interest pretty fast. Three minutes is usually longer than most people can stand so even three minutes is pushing it. Frankly if you listen longer than 10 seconds it may feel like torture to most.
All in all this song sucks but I worked pretty hard on it so I'm posting it anyway.

Lyrics
Face Down Again

I saw the actions taken- Face down again
Weren't quite as you planned- Face down again
The schemes you took
They took a bad turn yeah
And now you're looking
Face down again
My friend

You want to fade to nothing
Not face the shame
You want to feel the numbness
Not feel the pain- well
You want to end the sorrow
Maybe just fade away
You don't want to see tomorrow
Can't even face the day yeah

(Chorus)
Face down in the gutter again
As smart as you thought you were
Face down in the gutter again
You tried to bring me with you
Face down in the gutter again
As smart as you thought you were
Face down in the gutter again
You tried to bring me with you

You lived in gluttony- Face down again
Lacking motivation- Face down again
You fell off the cliff
Tried to bring me with you
Now you're looking
Face down again
My friend

You aren't as smart as you think
Have too much pride
Failing because of sloth
Taken out by the tide- well
Most learn from their mistakes
Rise from the ground
But you wallow in your shame
Jump in the lake and drown yeah

(Chorus)

Face Down Again
Some serious angst on display here, Michael :-) New guitar sounds great. I like how the mix still has good definition despite its hard rock pedigree. The vocal works fine for the song. Don't be so hard on yourself. I easily managed to retain concentration for the 4+ minute song. No sucking to see here. Good post. Thanks!

Humbucking face down
The tone is rich and dark, just like it's suppose to be... the rhythm playing is genre specific and effective, no reason to apologize for this tune. Great production stands out here which supports the spirit of the tune.
The lead section played out effectively and starts with tasty melodic work... kinda sounds generic by the end. Second, or tag solo, works the same territory as the second half of the first solo. Suggestion... sing the lines while yer tracking the guitar solos... the more vocal aspects of your solo work might be enhanced, works that way for lots of folks...

Nice changes
Really like your guitar work, that LP sounds sweet and the drums fit nicely. Oh and that lead is way cool.

Fasteddie returns
Sounds great. I don't think you need to critique yourself so harshly. "Torture"? C'mon, man. Be proud of your work. As far as song length goes, I ain't buying it. A song is as long as it needs to be (except for Free Bird, which is definitely too long). If it takes you 10 minutes to express yourself, go for it. If it only takes 2 minutes, so be it. Anyway, it's good to have fasteddie back.

Face Down Again
One of my biggest facepalm moments came when I sold my '74 Les Paul Autumn Sunburst - a move I'll always regret to my grave lol! I love my Strat but some songs just go better with a Les Paul. I really dig the tone on your new guitar, and the song is not nearly as bad as you went to so much trouble to advertise it to be - in fact it's pretty cool - and it rocks! Cool lead too - I'd say it was a worthy investment - congrats! Enjoyed this a lot man - thanks!
