Long Long Way

Description
I haven't posted for ages, as the Sock Puppet's drummer is on deployment sans kit. However, thanks to the miracle of sampling and looping we're back as a duo and it's a good 'un.

Lyrics
Over hill, over dale
Through the rain, sleet and hail
Cross the deep ocean blue
Come with me
We can't afford to sleep
We got a long, long way to go

Mountain high, valley low,
We got a long, long way to go
Up ahead, in the sky
Is a new home for you and I
With such a long, long way to go

We've come a long, long, long, long way
We got a long, long way to go

Is it prog? Is it pop?
Does it matter? I'm working on the middle section even as I type. Thanks for listening, Mr America.

Long Long Way
I ike the smooth guitar intro. The close vocal harmony works well. Interesting variety of guitar tones and thoughtful arrangement. Neat way to finish it off. Good one, Graham!

Cheers, Philip
It's not done, though. I've been gilding the lily all day, and will no doubt simplify it all tomorrow. And then muck it up again.

Ta, Vic.
As predicted in my response to Philip, I've been adding stuff to this, and am in the process of weeding it all out again. Murder your darlings!

Thanks, Daug.I literally dreamt this one, and was able to remember it and get it onto the hard drive before it faded.

An interesting arrangement
Quality pop morphs into something entirely different.

I like it!

Groovy
A retro vibe. Not quite sure what it evokes. A new song that sounds like a hit from the past. The slow "barren winter landscape" interlude at 3:07 was unexpected. And then you jump right back onto the bandwagon. Nice ride. Is that a bandwagon crash at the end? LOL.

It's a McNair sample.
Check out 801's "Listen Now" and "Here Comes the Flood" era Gabriel for my reference tracks. Thanks for listening, Mr S.

Ending
Hmm .. should I comment .. or wait for the release of 2.0? Ah .. the conundrums of social networking.

I'm liking everything I hear here .. but I really expected the vocals to come back in again when it suddenly ended.

long long way
i hit 'play' and thought i was on KC groove's page. have you two guys been hanging out. very pro sound and catchy tune. the middle section is really cool....it comes out of nowhere like the entire band had smoked something and got distracted for three minutes, then someone said, "dude, weren't we rehearsing 'long, long way?". What? Oh yeah, and then you pick it up again, but without any lead into it...which i think is cool and rule-breaking.
i listened while reading my whizzer & chips annual 1967.

Wow! 1967
W and C lasted longer than I thought - a real record for Fleetway. Anyway, the "finished" version is up on my FB page as well as the cloud of sound. I haven't been hanging with KC, alas. I nicked this from Manzanera and Gilmour.
