Wrong/NotRight [with DWL]

Description
The genesis of this song was simply Dick and I swapping random rhyming couplets by e-mail. When a kicker line emerged .. and a melody .. it gave it a focus and turned into a production. This represents the second time we have collaborated on a song to post here at MacJams.

Lyrics
Something's Wrong (Smith/Langford)
A G
I looked my demon in the eye
F E
He blinked once, I blinked twice
F G A
I can’t help but thinking something’s wrong

I climbed a long and winding road
Carrying on my shoulders a heavy load
I can’t help thinking something’s wrong

I gave my girl a diamond ring
She said “you know where you can stick that thing”
I can’t stop thinking something’s wrong

Someone told me I needed to chill
So I took a little yellow pill
I can’t help but thinking something’s wrong

I don't understand the doctor said
If I were you I'd be quite dead
I tell you this isn’t right

The priest said he could save my soul
From what I asked, from rock n' roll?
I tell you this isn’t right

The hippy praised the Lord above
Shouts loudly "let's make war not love"
I tell you this isn’t right

My racist boss says let's be friends
I think he's trying to make amends
I tell you this isn’t right

Things are getting in my brain
I woke with those odd thoughts again
I tell you this isn’t right

The land is shrinking the water's rising
Still there are those that go on denying
I can’t help but thinking something’s wrong

My head is not where it should be
It's on my leg and talking to my knee
I tell you this isn’t right

I went to the refrigerator to grab the last beer
But I discovered someone had beaten me there
I can’t help but thinking something’s wrong

nuthin wrong
this has a very '60's british rock sound, even if dick wasn't involved :)

some really nice changes throughout that keeps the listener on their
ear-toes.

British Invasive species
Vic, I'm sure just collaborating with a Brit influences the sound : )

A simple start indeed!
I'm amazed where you took this Warren.
Great fun to be part of it even if all I did was throw a few words in the mix.

Thanks :-)

Cheers

Dick

Should
be the backing track to a situation comedy. Thanks, you two.

Laugh lines
I wonder which one of us would get to be the straight man of the comedy routine?

Dream of consciousness
If we are the dream team .. you must be dreaming! It's only our second collaboration .. way too early to talk about an album : )

Strangely enough
a lot of my lyrics were formed in the middle of the night.

Wonderful guys...
I love the "these are the kinds of words that run through my mind on an almost daily basis" lyric. I sense the melody line mostly belongs to Warren perhaps? Great work from you on all fronts and while I cannot get over here as often as I'd enjoy (long story but one day soon...I hope!) this was well worth checking out. Thanks again, and take good care now, Michael

Something good in there
Michael, your presence is missed; your kind words appreciated. The song represents two long-time songwriters kicking around some ideas and letting them evolve into a completion .. without being too judgmental in the course of development .. and trusting that something good will come out of that effort.

Fun tune, gentlemen!
I enjoy especially the various unique guitar journeys and traded-off vocals.

Tripping
Those guitar journeys simply developed as the song went from a simple idea to something else. I was surprised as anyone where they went. That is one of the fundamental joys in making music like this .. to let it lead you on a journey. Thanks for coming along on that trip.

Right on actually
What a fun and entertaining contrast between the accents of you and Dick. Original (very), light yet complete in what you set out to express. I like the looseness to the timing and the vocal doubling. A good listen and a reminder to let the boundaries of creativity open even further than one normally does. Very cool and dloaded.

Tracking
I double (and triple and quadruple) track almost all vocals these days for a couple of different reasons. One is to experiment with harmony. A second is to give different readings to the same line with different intonations or accents of the words. And I suppose a third reason would be to add strength to the sound of my voice. Dick picked up on that and (with his astute sense of timing) added his own twist to the idea. I (we) appreciate you checking out our song.
