Description
I was after a retro west-coast 60's lounge groove here.

I got the infomercial effect at the end by slowing the pitch on the vocal in GB.

Chris Flynn on bass and Scot Fugate on drums. thanks guys

Lyrics
free yourself - let go and it will come to you
sit right back - you got time to take a different view
find your feet on solid ground
tune in to ‘what’ and ‘who’ you are

who you are - a loneliness sleeps in your eyes
life’s a dream - wake up and then you realise
all alone is all you know
open your mind, and let it go

letting out the light inside - sit right back!

let go and it will come to you
sit back - it’s time to take a different view
things don’t always have to be the way you see them
there are other possibilities just waiting round the corner
all you have to do is sit right back and take another view
free yourself, let go…..and it will come to you
new horizons, new ventures, new ways
seeing things differently
and appraising things in a whole new manner
and watch how new possibilities spring into life

unusual and interesting. Great lyrics, loving the panning effects and various accompanying instruments.
Chris and Scott blend in beautifully too.
Enjoyed.

Super smooth. Has an "America" feel to it. Scott and Chris's contributions are exceptional - just what's needed. Love the harmonies you're doing here. Tasteful and varied arrangement. A person doesn't hear speech in songs so much now, but this one shows how it can be done effectively. Quality work, Julian!

Isn't it ironic?
Can't work out whether you are being ironic or whether you are being sincere in this one. So much relentless positivity! I almost feel uplifted. In poststructuralist mode, I suppose you can read it either way. Very nice vibe though and your signature laid back guitar is sublime. Godlike in its transcendent glory, obvs.

Very mellow sound and harmonies. You sure you don't live in Laurel canyon instead of Hackney? I like the bass playing especially.

We're riding on the Hackney Marshes Express
Smoother than a very smooth thing Mr Sims.

Brilliant harmonies and as Mr Bacon said, I have no idea if this is serious/taking the piss/or simply just a very clever piece of wordplay (or perhaps all three).

Splendid!

Cheers

Dick

Smoother than a banana smoothie. I believe! What number do I ring to donate? :-) Lovely harmonies. Chris and Scott, the Bossa buddies, bring the goods, too. A quality listen, as always, Julian.

I just picked myself from the floor. This is so laid back, I slid down there. I love all the little panning synthy touches. Real nice music.

This is so smooooooth, just the right amount of laid back to balance the forward momentum. As others observed it has that CSNY vibe in parts but it's not quoting their work by any means. The bossa beat from Scot reinforced by Chris' bass work is perfect for the vibe you've set. The vocal touch and the synth splashes all add to the whole in just the right balance. Thanks for the download!!

Love this! Good to see (hear) you're still writing and recording. This one reminded me why I loved those classic recordings by The Association." Scott and Chris are a modern day "Wrecking Crew."

Another very cool assembly of words, feel and musical arrangement. Inspiring.. as usual... job, Mr. hackneybloke I agree with Andrew's "Wrecking Crew" assessment. Classy collab, gentlemen!

Man, super slinky smooth. Absolutely nailed the late 60's space-age bachelor pad genre. The harmonies are ultra silky. Totally pro mix. Bass and Drums are massively tasty. I'd floored and a little jealous, and I don't say that very often around here...

Hi Julian - this is a great song! Love the harmonies, and all those nifty sounds peppered throughout are just, well - nifty! Can't go wrong with Chris and Scott - great performances (nice riffing Chris!). Speaking the last section was a creative move, but I'm not sure what you are referring to at the end with the vox slowing down - I didn't hear that. Cool collaborative effort - reminds me of the golden days of macjams - thanks guys - really enjoyed!

I have to agree with Kingbee
Has that CSN vibe going on. Scott and Chris are a great choice when it comes to collaborations and they always know how to deliver the goods. Nice to see a new one from Julian who seems to have a different approach and a thought out project each time. Enjoyed and congratulations to the three of you.

Sorry I missed this...
What a cool rhythm you set up at the beginning of this smooth piece. And then your vocals kick in with that same mellow feeling. Just such a pleasant piece to listen to. It is well-crafted and recorded with care, too. The vocal harmony reminds me of the Carpenters' sound in the '70, a sound I have always loved. Laid back, smooth, measured, hypnotic...and very nice.

Missed this!
....... but better late than never. Sounds like Graham Nash meets Steely Dan, with a hint of Zappa at the end. A nostalgic trip back to the late 60s early 70s. Lovely playing from Scott and Chris as well as your good self and your vocals are smooth and sweet.
Great post Julian.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil
