Description
Trawling through some files today I found this demo recording Steve and I did one evening back in autumn 2012. Steve had written these lyrics after having come back from dropping his daughter off at University in Scarborough. It’s pretty obviously about the jumble of emotions he was feeling at the time. I had a tune I was working on so we mashed them together and knocked this out live in one session if I remember round a simple mono recorder. I must have added a few overdubs and we probably intended to get back to it and do a proper recording but with moving away it never happened. Listening again it bought back some good memories of one of our last sessions so I thought I’d post it up here for posterity.

Lyrics
A Place to call home

Driving at night down the A64
From the big city
To the bright lights of the shore
Following the red tail lights all the way
Past the city
Where the Vikings had their say

When I leave I feel nothing but regret
When I return there’s no one left
When I leave I feel oh so alone
Good to return to this place
I call home

Ch
I love this town
This town near the sea
I love this town
This town it loves me
I love this town
I really love this town

When I arrive the sea calls my name
All the birds are in on this game
To walk along these familiar roads
In the place I call home

When I leave I still have regret
When I return there’s no one left
As I walk in the pale moonlight
I know everything is alright

Mandolin wind
Nice use of the mando and decent singing. A full version would be good, but this is a pleasant memento.

A place to call home
Quality acoustic vibe and welcome sentiment in the lyrics. The mando/acoustic combination works so well and your voices blend together very nicely. Thanks for posting this, Mark.

A place to call home
Gentle lyrics, warm harmonies, bright acoustic feel to the instrumentation. It all works well.
