Thou Art More Lovely (with guitar) - Rich's idea 1

Description
This was my first very rough attempt, on 10/26/2004, to set Sonnet 18 to music, a brilliant idea of Dadai (Jack Miller). I mistakenly uploaded my vox-only bounce on first try the other day. Jack wanted me to upload the bounce that has my horrid guitar noodling in background. Here it is.

We (Postludes Trio) eventually came up with a nicer, more musical soundtrack. See MacJams user Postludes Trio for our final collaboration. http://www.macjams.com/song/50339

Lyrics: William Shakespeare (Sonnet 18)
Voice and dubious guitar: Richard Schletty

Lyrics
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed.

But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee

Shine On
At first I thought maybe MacJams was doing that old memories thing that has become standard on Facebook these days (2016), where it automatically suggests pop-ups from the past .. but I see that isn't the case here : )

As a finished piece, yeah, the guitar and production would be seen as a negative. That's not the case here. It's a perfectly acceptable musical presentation as a rough draft spelling out the idea of a song putting Shakespeare's words to music. That especially becomes clear when you go listen to the finished polished version you posted on the Postludes Trio page .. and you see where the idea went to. I never have been big at posting rough drafts on this site, yet I find it's one of the things I value about MacJams: listening to works-in-progress.

One other note: it was coming across your Postludes Trio Shakespeare pieces that first gave me the realization that there was something special going on at MacJams. We know that 10-plus years later much of the magic has dissipated (for a variety of reasons) .. but there are moments when it still produces a shine.

Thou Art More Lovely
Not an easy task to put the Bard's sonnets to music but you did a fine job Richard. The demo is interesting from many perspectives. Glad I had a chance to hear it at the developmental stage. Thanks.
