Description
Last year I posted a song called Holiday In San Francisco written by Steve Booth, my postman. The back story to how we came to be recording together can be read there.

Anyway, we have been catching up sporadically for a jam this year and finally got round to recording together again.

This post is a "band" arrangement of the last song I wrote and posted, Man In The Mirror, with Steve contributing lap steel, bass and drums.

I do the vocals, acoustic guitar, organ and mix/master.

The lap steel, which Steve built, suits this style of song admirably and Steve did a great job with it.

See what you think.

Kind regards,

Peter

Lyrics
Man In The Mirror - Peter Bowen (October 2014)

[C] [G] [F] [C]

It's [C] late in the evening and I'm [G] staring at the mirror and this [F] guy is looking back at [C] me
He'd be [F] looking pretty sharp if you could [C] render out the red-eye and [G] airbrush in some dignity
He [F] still wears a frown from his [C] night on the town with its [Em] unfulfilled [F] fantasies [Fmaj7]
[C] Ain’t no need saying, that [G] man in the mirror is [C] me

In the [C] deepening twilight he [G] lowered his drawbridge and went [F] looking for love in the [C] night
From [F] night club to barroom he [C] laid down his patter to any [G] girl who didn’t take flight
Despite [F] splashing his hard earned on [C] whiskey and women, [Em] seems things didn’t turn out too [F] right [Fmaj7]
That [C] man in the mirror is [G] looking a little up[C]tight

You can [F] play fast and loose with your [C] image
But a [Em] mirror will tell you no [F] lies [Fmaj7]
In the [C] cold light of dawn, face [G] haggard and drawn,
It works [F] best if you just close your [C] eyes…

Lead over Verse

You can [F] play fast and loose with your [C] image
But a [Em] mirror will tell you no [F] lies [Fmaj7]
In the [C] cold light of dawn, face [G] haggard and drawn,
It works [F] best if you just close your [C] eyes…

Man In The Mirror
I like the way you develop this. The harmonies are good and the slide does fit well with the mood of the song. Build his own slide? Talented man, your postie. Sad song, sweetly performed.

Thanks
Thanks, Philip. Steve did a great job. Pity Macjams has less chance of staying the race than Donald Trump these days... Talk soon.

hauntingly beautiful Peter
You and your postie work well together. Your vocals (as usual) are warm and sincere and the harmonies (yours?) are delicious. The lyrics are too meaningful containing superb touches of poetry. The lap steel is perfect. Very well done, both of you.

Synergy
Thanks, Richard. Yeah, Steve and I have some synergy, for sure. Glad you liked the song. The harmonies are mine but tricked up a bit. Glad you thought the lyrics were okay. I am quite proud of them. Take care.

Rusty and dusty
Those harmonies are so much like the guys (Joe and Peter) used to do in the Rusty Dusty Brothers Peter. Great job all 'round - love the lap steel Steve.
Very cool bit of country.
Cheers,
Neil

Thanks, Neil. Yeah, I think the lap steel works a treat, too. Steve did a fine job filling out the song. Rusty and dusty - sounds like a cartoon show :-) Take care, my friend.

A wonderful rendition Peter. The vocal is spot on, the harmonies hit the mark and the lap steel guitar is perfect for this kind of song.

I came from your original version just now and it's interesting the different mood that I get from each rendition. They are both effective and both very polished. Very nicely done!

This band should be kept together!
