Lyrics
Running With The Wind - Peter Bowen (August 2016) - CAPO 2

[D] Late in the [G] evening
[D] Fire in the [G] sky
[D] Venus and the [G] Dog Star dance a [C] pavane way on [G] high

[D] Slow burning [G] embers
[D] You on my [G] mind
[D] I’m wrestling with a [G] wanderlust that [C] left our love be[A]hind

[Gm7] Gulf country [C] sunrise
[Am] Welcomes in the [Dm] day
[Gm7] I’m heading [C] down the road a’ [D]way

[Gm7] I wonder what you’re [C] doing
While [Am] I play casta[Dm]way
[Gm7] While I’m out [C] here running with the [D] wind

I’m walking down the long road
Wind in my face
I’m working as a hired hand as I move from place to place

Dust in my pockets
Dust in my shoes
Another cold and lonely night has made me think for you

I work up the courage
To call you on the phone
But the message bank said you weren’t home

I’m captive to my freedom
And feeling so alone
While I’m out here running with the wind

Lead over two verses

We finally get connected
And I don't know what to say
But I'm going to say it anyway

Without you I am nothing
I'm coming home to stay
I'm tired of running with the wind
I’m tired of running with the wind
I'm tired of running with the wind

[Gm7] [C] [D] x4

Running With The Wind
Full sounding guitar, warm vocal, there's a story in the lyrics. A good campfire song!

Spoilt for choice
Thanks, Philip. I like singing the song, so that must mean something. See you Thursday. Barolo or Barbaresco - tough choice :-) Take care. Talk soon.

Burning CDs
Nicely played and sung.

For how long having you been distributing CDs annually to family and friends? I did that for about twenty years, but now I've dropped off to a pace that's more like every-other year : ) I'm curious as to how you make your music CDs - what kind of format do you use? And do you include printed lyrics?

Justify...
Hi Warren. Thanks for listening and commenting. I think this will be annual CD number seven and they have evolved over time. I originally produced all of them at home, buying empty jewel cases and printing the inside covers on my home printer, etc. It took a fair while to knock out 20 or so, what with the burning, printing, cutting and folding. Then I progressed to getting them duplicated at a local media printer. Originally still jewel cases but now cardboard CD cases that open like a book. 50 is a minimum run. I don't usually include the lyrics but I do acknowledge everyone and give a brief blurb about each song on the inside cover. I generally use photos that I have taken throughout the year as the cover art, etc. It is fun and it keeps the pressure on me a bit to continue to write new songs, but in the end it is probably just a way to somehow justify my expensive guitars and equipment and how much time I spend fiddling round in my "studio" :-) Take care.

Making your own
That's basically the same way I have done it when producing my own CDs - developing a cover booklet for a jewel case which has photos, a song list, art and lyrics. As I do all of my recording in Garageband, what I do is export the songs from GB to iTunes, where I compile the album's playlist, and then burn a CD of that playlist. I have always thought of singing, writing and recording as a literary activity that doesn't need any justification. My wife might disagree with that.

Hey Peter. This song has a nicely crafted melody. Along with the lyrics I think this is one I could hear produced ... a little country a little pop - singer songwriter... this is one you should shop around. Your singing sounds great!
Well written and performed.

A little country, a little pop
Thanks, Stan. Yes, I think this will work up quite well into an "Adult Not-So-Contemporary" number :-) Sigmund and Chris et. al. are taking a look putting at an arrangement around it. I appreciate your support. Take care.

Tabs!
Really like the fact that you always give us the chords with the song. Half the time I forget how to play my songs and if it was an especially creative tune I might never get it the way I recorded it again. I like this chord progression a lot, it has a classic 70's adult contemporary feel. Enjoyed, thanks for the DL.

Classic 70's
Thanks, Craig. The chords are there as a history repository for me, too :-) Classic 70's is where my heart still lies, so I guess that comes through on most of my songs. Glad you liked it. Take care.

Rubbed off
Thanks, Vic. I appreciate your positive comments. Early Eagles, Poco, Firefall, JD Souther, Seals and Crofts, Loggins and Messina all bring back good west coast US musical memories for me. I guess they rubbed off :-) Take care.

Classic song by...
a classic singer-songwriter. Peter, I am amazed how you put out these fine songs, one after another. Makes me wish I get up off my butt and work on some of the song sketches sitting getting cobwebs on my computer.

Great ballad with your signature heartfelt vocal, beautiful guitar, and lyrics that draw one in. Kudos...

Got there in the end :-)
Very kind words, Jack. Thanks. I built the song around the chorus chord progression and two lines that popped into my head as soon as I played it, "And I don't know what to say, But I'm going to say it anyway". Took me a while to flesh out the rest of the story but I got there in the end. Take care.

Another
fine song Peter with a great vocal.
This is more my style of music to perform but it would never be as good as this, very much enjoyed!

Aussie focus
The sound is relaxed and free. Song craft on this is pleasant and the arrangement, while predictable, is very well done-so kudos!
Thank you for sharing your work with us here. You hold the bar up high.

Tulsa :-)
Thanks, Daug. Yes, I am deliberately trying to write Aussie focus songs these days. Seems a bit silly me writing about Tulsa :-) I agree with your comments re the simple arrangement but, hopefully, a skilled arrangement and some quality session musicians could rip it up. I wonder what Andrew Gold, JD Souther, Russ Kunkel and Waddy Wachtel are doing? :-) Take care.

Running With The Wind
Very nicely done Peter. The guitar sounds nice and mellow, and your vocal fits perfectly into the atmosphere of the lyrics. For some reason, I'm getting a Little River Band ballad feel here - a good thing in my book.
Cheers from north of the border ;)

Flesh it out :-)
Thanks, Neil. Happy with an LRB nod :-) Now I just need Glenn Shorrock, Beeb Birtles and Rick Formosa to flesh it out a touch :-) "It's A Long Way Here" is still one of my all time fav Aus songs. Hope things are well up north. Take care.
