Description
When I first got my new Mac, I plugged in my Epiphone Semi-Hollow Body and cruised some guitar patches. Found two I liked and began just messing around. A few hours later I had recorded all the guitar tracks for this song. Then I discovered the lyrics to NO REQUIEM and decided to work on that instead. So this one got shelved. A couple weeks ago I began work on it again and just finished it up last night.

Years ago a fellow Macjammer told me: "one can't always write something profound, you know..."

In the spirit of that remark I submit to you all this cheesy classic rock tune! :-)

Wishing each and every one of you a safe and prosperous 2017.

Lyrics
GETAWAY

I.
Workin' hard all week tryin' to make that dollar;
runnin' full-bore on that treadmill again.

Come Friday afternoon I'm ready to hollar.
All this stress is makin' my head spin!

They tell me "Life's a bitch, and then you die."
What a sad thing to say...

Got no intention of goin' under.
Must be a better way!

REFRAIN:
I need a break from this daily grind!
Don't get one soon gonna lose my mind!

II.
I got a plan for a getaway baby.
It's not a want it's a must...

We gotta get us the hell outta "Dodge;"
'fore we spontaneously combust!

Seems we're workin' all the time honey;
when will it be enough?

The way we're livin' it's all the same,
whether it's boom or bust...

REFRAIN:
We need a break from this daily grind!
Don't get one soon gonna lose our minds!

III.
Grab some cash... Gas up the car.
We're movin' fast 'cause we're goin' far.

I got a special little place in mind;
a lotta love, and a bottle of wine!

They're gonna hear these old tires squeal...
Buckle up baby, it's about to get real!

City lights in the rear-view mirror;
our destination gettin' nearer and nearer.

REFRAIN:
We need a break from this daily grind!
Just a little while, we'll be feelin' fine!

Can't believe how good it makes me feel...
No longer under the gun, now we're behind the wheel!

Getaway from Yerself
Man you have been missed!
Please continue posting material that demonstrates an ability to develop ideas, with multiple rhythmic and melodic phrases throughout. It is sorely missed here in MJ town.

I appreciate
the ringing endorsement Daug. I love this place and it was painful to be away so long. My joy at being able to make and post music here again knows no bounds. For awhile it looked like I would never be able to return. Glad you enjoyed the song bro!

Nice Southern Rock feel (with just a touch of prog as seasoning?). The various guitar incantations rock. Impressive arrangement. The lyrics are classic rock song fodder. But they work! That's why they keep getting re-cycled. Another fine "comeback" post, Mike. Thanks.

You pegged it Peter...
I'm a HUGE Bottle Rockets fan. (Can anything good come out of Festus, Missouri? YOU BETCHA!!!) There is a bit of their influence in the guitar work.

"Classic rock fodder"... YUP. The tune cried out for cheesy lyrics. Glad to know I delivered. Ha ha...

Thanks so much for listening and commenting.

Rocking...
Welcome back Mike.

Some nifty guitar work here and quite different to your usual more progressive stuff. Sounding good all round and it sounds like you enjoyed doing it too. Good to have you back.

The
guitars sound great and some nice playing Mike.
The bass gells nicely with the drums and guitars, this is a good mix and another fine piece of work.
Lots of energy in this excellent rocker and a great performance!

The bass lines were one of the hardest parts of recording this thing. I kept wanting to complicate them! Oh well, live and learn right?

Glad you liked it. I appreciate the thumbs up.

getaway
catchy guitar riffs from the start. classic 70's rock style going on here but with your thumbprints and leather pants all over it. the chorus and backing vocals are great. bass & drums lay a strong foundation
Check out my latest song called Strawberry Fields
Calchas said 146 days ago (December 31st, 2016)
Sorry about the thumbprints...
Should have washed my hands first. And don't get me started on the leather pants! With all this holiday cuisine about, I practically had to shoe horn my way into them! :-)

Had a hell of a time getting the vocals and background vocals to sound good. But I've learned some new tricks which should bode well for future releases.

Anyway, thank you for your continued friendship, help and support Vic. May your 2017 be safe, happy, and prosperous.

A hard hitting track for sure. Very solid beat and all.

Ok, I love the raw lead in the left channel. And the one in the right channel is just getting in the way. I would make the first sound even more prominent and dispense with the second.

Hm. Where does that solo come from? I keep hearing the left lead, and the sound is not the right lead. Did some visiting guitarist just drop in for a quick solo? Psychologically I'd say that the solo should really come from one of the guitar tracks that the listener has heard before. Otherwise it makes the track disjointed.

Calchas said 144 days ago (January 2nd, 2017)
Hiya Vic!
All good questions! but not without answers...

I understand your concern re the solo. However, in my mind the vocalist steps up to the plate for the middle and ending soloing, so has his own guitar sound. Perhaps one can overthink such things?

Still, an intelligent question after all!

Thanks for listening AND for the critical ear.

Oh...
and alternatively, the left guitarist could have pressed a button on his foot pedal to access a more biting sound for his lead solo. Happens often enough in concert. :-)
